There is a movie coming out in December starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig by the title of The Golden Compass. The movie is based on the first book of a fascinating trilogy by Philip Pullman entitled His Dark Materials. I have not yet read the books, but as books are usually more detailed than movies, and from what I have seen at their website, I can't wait to read them. The setting is in a world similar to ours but in a parallel universe where a person's soul resides outside their body in a creature called a Daemon. Each person's Daemon is of course different. I recommend the books--they're wonderful! And a corrupt Church (explicitly, the Roman Catholic Church, but it could be any corrupt church) is the archvillain of the series. The books take place mostly in a parallel universe (although part of the second book takes place on our own earth), but the most important planet is one that was obviously spun off from our own planet: It has the same continents and oceans, most of the same countries--and the same Church.
I never took the online Daemon quiz--I knew what mine had to be as soon as I read the books! (See the title of my blog! : ) )
