As I sit here listening to Chopin enjoying a quiet Sunday at home, I though I would go ahead and write my post instead of waiting to the last minute to try to get it done before bedtime. I spent yesterday evening over at Logo online watching a series of documentaries sponsored by Stolichnaya Blueberri Vodka entitled Be Real: Stories From Queer America. It is a great series with 7 videos of varying lengths so far featuring Gay Americans sharing their stories. I watched all of them in one sitting fascinated by the real individuals who are making a difference where they are just by being who they are. These stories are ones that everyone should see. These are the people our GLBT young people need to see. To know there are people like them, there is nothing wrong with them, and that you can have a happy, successful life without denying who you are to anyone. There are other documentaries that are just as fascinating. When you select a video to watch a new window opens (or in my case a new tab in FireFox 2) with the LOGO media player in it to watch the video. In the sidebar of the player, there is a list of related videos that will keep you there for a while if you choose to watch all of them at once. I keep both tabs open so I can just go back and forth and choose the video I want to watch.
I also read a great article over on ESPN Page 2 by L Z Granderson Ability is the issue -- not orientation. He relates the story of Adam Goslin who plays DL on the Washington University (St.Louis) football team but who is not on the DL, he has been openly gay since his sophomore year there. Here is another example of a courageous young man who dares to make a difference just by being himself. Adam is a senior now and will be graduating this spring. I hope he gets drafted by the NFL as the first openly gay athlete there. My hope is conditional, I only hope it if that is what Adam wants to do, it does not say in the article if he wants to play pro football. If he does, great, if he doesn't, I am sure he will make his mark in whatever field he chooses. A remarkable young man who is a role model for other young athletes as well as the rest of us. Living out and proud, making a difference just by being there and being us is a lesson all of us should take to heart. You never know whose life you touch and what a difference you will make to them just by being yourself.
As you all know by now I am doing double duty this week posting here and over at Ryan and Mike's blog Boys are Ugly But So Cute and today I followed in there tradition of playing What City Sunday. Go on over and check it out. I posted the clues and some pictures for hints. Post your guesses in the comments and we will see who figures it out first. I guess that is about it for today, so until next time as always, Enjoy!
