Many Thoughts On The Events Of The Week

Posted by Picasa
There have been so many things in the news this week. All of them competing for our attention. So I will start with the religious right and the republicans with their apoplexy over US Representative elect Keith Ellison. It seems the right wingnuts are besides themselves over his spiritual beliefs. You see, Ellison is a consistently spiritual man who regularly prays. What is wrong with that? Rep. Ellison is a Muslim, the first elected to congress. He prays with a Koran and he wants a Koran with him when he is sworn in to congress. The wingnuts are ranting and raving because they say the Bible should be used when being sworn into congress. Only problem there is the Bible has never been a participant in a congressional swearing in ceremony. Yet the wingnut shock jock Dennis Praeger has even compared the Koran to Mein Kampf by Adolph Hitler. Is it any wonder so many Muslims hate America when there is this much bile being spewed on our airwaves? You can read more about this on AMERICAblog.

Meanwhile on the left coast, another big time republican activist has been arrested in a sex-predator sting by the Seattle police department. Larry Corrigan, who for 25 years was director of financial operations in the prosecutors office, was arrested when he arranged to meet what he though was a 13 year old girl in a video store for sex. Fortunately the 13 year old "girl" was an undercover police officer who arrested Corrigan arrived for his tete a' tete on Wednesday afternoon. The Seattle Times piece can be found here. Where are the family values so vociferously espoused by the republicans in this situation?

On the video front, there are a couple of good documentaries to be found at the Current TV Seeds of Tolerance contest. The first is We Belong by gay Pennsylvania high schooler C. J. Bills on the discrimination faced by LGBT students in high school, the second is Blood Brothers about Matthew Boger who was a victim of a hate crime a la Matthew Shepherd. Unlike Shepherd, he was lucky enough to survive. The film contains a twist that will amaze you and give you hope for America. All things are possible, we just have to work at it. Go on over and watch the videos, it is worth your time.

Well Nichevo has taken the best of the photographs and made a video out of them for your enjoyment presented here.
