Monday Morning Inspriation

While casting about through my feeds for something to write about this morning, I ran across the following story on Outsports.  In A life worth living: To near death and back again in South Bend, Notre Dame Tennis Player Matt Dooley tells his story.  A Texas boy from down around San Antonio, Matt grew up athletically gifted thanks to his marathon running Mother and his all sport Father with a muscle physique.  Yet from the time of middle school years, Matt knew he was Gay and struggled with that reality, as so many of us do.  His story starts out with his 2011 suicide attempt, then back tracks to his youth, his coming out and through to where he is today, an openly Gay college athlete at one of the worlds premiere yet wholly conservative Catholic Universities.  Matt, who is now a senior at Notre Dame, is working with  the Student Welfare and Development center at Notre Dame laying the groundwork for a You Can Play project.  Matt says "Dan Savage's "It Gets Better" project might be the most appropriately titled concept of all time, because the life of our gay youth, particularly those who are athletes, does just that: It gets better. Better is not perfect nor free of difficulty and pain, and neither am I. I still battle my daily demons."  (Don't we all?)  His story is inspiring and a definite good read for a Monday Morning.  Treat yourself to some inspiration, won't you?
