...it must have, surely. Why else would it be snowing outside during a thunderstorm? Or perhaps there might be another reason it is cold as Hell? In last week's headlong rush to the Weekend, do not think for a minute I missed the fact that two women got married down in Austin on Thursday, I just have not had the time to comment on it, yet. I shall henceforth rectify said deficiency. On Tuesday in a case involving a Texas Lesbian couple who sought to have their marriage recognized as common law due to the status of one of the women's cancer, Texas Probate Judge Guy Herman struck down the state's ban on same-sex marriage.
Herman ruled as part of an estate fight
in which Austin resident Sonemaly Phrasavath sought to have her
eight-year relationship to Stella Powell deemed to have been a
common-law marriage. Powell died last summer of colon cancer.
A call is out to Travis County Clerk Dana
DeBeauvoir to determine her plans in light of the ruling. DeBeauvoir
has said in the past that she is ready to begin distributing marriage
licenses to same-sex couples as soon as allowed by the courts.
Then on Thursday once again The Austin Statesman reports:
Sarah Goodfriend and Suzanne Bryant,
together almost 31 years, said their vows before Rabbi Kerry Baker while
standing in front of the Travis County Clerk’s Office sign on Airport
Boulevard.
The couple was denied a license in the same office building eight years ago. But on Thursday morning, state District
Judge David Wahlberg, petitioned by a lawyer for Goodfriend and Bryant,
ordered Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir to grant the couple a
marriage license.
The ceremony was a mix of personal – with
friends and their teenage daughters, Dawn and Ting, standing nearby –
and public statement, with photos of their vows in front of the county
sign. “It’s very exciting,” Bryant said before
the wedding. “My little one was worried about missing her history class.
I said we’ll be making history.”
Of course, Governor Fuck Head's lackey Attorney General Ass Wipe has issued a statement blasting Travis County Probate Judge Guy Herman's Tuesday ruling overturning the state's ban on same-sex marriage.
“Texas law is clear on the definition of
marriage, and I will fight to protect this sacred institution and uphold
the will of Texans, who voted overwhelmingly in favor of a
constitutional amendment defining the union as between one man and one
woman. The probate judge’s misguided ruling does not change Texas law or
allow the issuance of a marriage license to anyone other than one man
and one woman.”
Shortly afterwordsm Texas Supreme Court has issued an emergency order
blocking all future gay marriages. Goodfriend and Bryant were issued
the license after a District judge ordered Travis County Clerk Dana
DeBeauvoir to grant it.
Thursday's ruling doesn't invalidate the
marriage of the two women who were allowed to marry hours earlier based
on a one-time court order issued for health reasons. One of the women
has cancer.
Texas Attorney GeneralKen Paxton {Ass Wipe} says he is seeking
to void the marriage license through other means, though he didn't
provide details.
Texas Attorney General
So yes, the homo-nuttiness continues in the great state of Texas. As a result, me thinks Hell may truly have frozen over because Marriage Equality has come to Texas. Well, sorta kinda anyway. One thing is for sure, no matter what the Governor or AG says, Goodfriend and Bryant are still legally married in Texas. In June their whole point may be mute when SCOTUS rules Marriage Equality as the law of the land Nationwide. "Hold on Blanche, it's going to be a bumpy ride." Unfortunately for our opponents, in the end they are the ones who will be taking the bumps and lumps at the hands of the judiciary. And pissing and moaning and bitching and whining the whole fucking time. Breaks my fucking heart, not!
For today's Monday With Mozart, I have 3 performances of Music by the Master. All different, yet all with the common element of my favorite orchestral instrument, the Cello. We begin with the Sonata for Bassoon and Cello in B Flat Major Composed in Munich at the beginning of 1775 for Baron Thaddäus von Dürnitz. Here it is performed by Eckart Hübner on the Bassoon and Reinhard Latzko on the Cello. We then have 7 Variations based on the opening theme of Piano Sonata in A major, K. 331 composed by Ron Weidberg in 1991 performed by Irit Rub, Piano; Avigail Arnheim, Clarinet, Nitai Zori, Violin and Hilel Zori, Cello. Our finale is the Piano Trio in G, K 496 performed by the Clara Trio of Yundu Wang, Piano; Qianqian Li, Violin and Christine Lamprea, Cello.
Over on my tumblr, you may hear Mozart's Bassoon Concerto in B-Flat Major, KV191 featured in a live
concert in the wonderful Teatro Olimpico of Andrea Palladio in Vicenza,
Italy by Aligi Voltan as your Bassoon Soloist with G.B.Rigon Conducting the Orchestra del Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza in June 2004.
