Hypoglycemia and Me

I have an appointment for my quarterly check up at the VA next Tuesday.  This means that first thing this morning I had to go down and let them play vampire with my veins for blood samples to test before my appointment time.  This allows my doctor to properly evaluate my health's progress or digression.  In order to do this, I first must fast for 8 hours, ingesting only water during that time.  I tested my sugar two hours after dinner last night before I started my fast.  I was at 180 which is the max allowable for that test time, so I took my metformin and a shot of insulin along with my other medications before heading to bed.  As a result, I was awakened about 5 am drenched in sweat and shaking like a leaf.  I immediately tested my sugar, which had plummeted to 48, 22 points below my minimum of 70.  However I could not increase my blood sugar by ingesting anything food or drink wise other than water until I had my blood drawn.

I had to drive down to the VA, getting there as the lab opened to decrease the wait time.  Thankfully, I only had to wait about a half hour before they called my name and drew my blood.  When I left the VA I headed straight for a convenience store for a DP and some little crunch donuts before going home and scrambling a couple of eggs for breakfast.  That calmed the shakes down enough to be able to go to work at 11 for the lunch run.  I was not at my best though, as the venture into hypoglycemia had worn me out somewhat and left me tired and a little weak.  Thank god it was only a 3 hour shift, as I don't think I could have worked a full 7 or 8 today if I tried.

After I returned home from work, I was hungry but the thought of food really did not appeal to me.  I did make a package of Ramen sans the flavor packet and mixed it with a little leftover chili.  I like both Ramen and chili, however I still had to force myself to eat it.  Even after eating I still feel weak and worn, so I will probably lay down and try to rest for a while.  I only have a 3 hour lunch shift tomorrow so I should be able to rest up before beginning my long days on Thursday.

Ever mindful of the privilege to entertain and titillate my audience, I have quite the the line up for your edification today.  We will start with your Musical Moment which features a classic 1960 recording of Johannes Brahms Piano Concerto Number 2 in B Flat Major, Opus 83 performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra under Maestro Eugene Ormandy.  Your Piano Soloist is Rudolf Serkin and the Cello Soloist is Elsa Hilger.  You may also hear Brahms Violin Concerto in D Major, Opus 77 with Herbert van Karajan conducting the Berlin Philharmonic with Anne-Sophie Mutter as your Violin Soloist over on my tumblr.

The piece de resistence for today is this gathering of svelte and sexy studs who are all vying to be your Tuesday's Temptations.  Additional temptation my be found in the Leather Cub Hottie of the Day! over on my tumblr.  Thanks for the visit, see you again soon.  Until next time as always, Enjoy!

Seems like there'd be a better way for your tests to be done when fasting is such a risk for you. **huggz** I hope you get plenty of rest this weekend.
