There were a couple of interesting things that happened yesterday. I noticed a headline blurb that runs along the bottom of the internet broadcast from 7-Eleven on the monitor over the coffee bar that read "Appeals Court Judge Rules Gays Have a Fundamental Right to Marry". At the time, I just put it on my mental list of things to check on in my news feeds, which I have indeed done. In two different courts, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals and Federal District Court in Indiana, rulings in favor of Marriage Equality were handed down. In both decisions, it was ruled that same sex couples were protected by the 14th Amendment from discrimination by bans on Marriage Equality. For the first time, both rulings included language stating that a state cannot deny a couple the fundamental right to marry based on the gender make up of the couple.
The 10th Circuit Court upheld the striking down of the Utah ban but stayed the ruling pending appeal to SCOTUS. The Dristrict Court in Indiana struck down that state's ban but did not stay the ruling so same sex couples began marrying yesterday. If the Utah case makes it onto the SCOTUS docket, then SCOTUS, in upholding the ruling, could set the precedent for nationwide Marriage Equality by establishing the fundamental right of any person to marry the one they love irrespective of the gender of either person. This will be the one to keep your eye on as the case progresses. Nationwide Marriage Equality here in the US could hasten the arrival of Marriage Equality to other nations as those countries emulate the US and its laws on the matter. I will be watching, will you?
The other interesting thing that happened yesterday was when I got home from work, checking the mail on the way into the apartment. I mysteriously received a check in the mail from my last landlords. Unfortunately it was not for the whole amount of my security deposit although the check stub stated this was a refund of that deposit. They returned 38 percent of my deposit and kept 62 percent. When I spoke with my attorney this morning he said to scan the check and the envelope and send them to him via email which I have done. I find it amusing to think that they think I am stupid enough to negate their liability by cashing the check. Once again, they have underestimated my resolve in this matter. It will definitely be interesting to see what the judge thinks of this action on their part. Yes, we will see them in court and watch them try to weasel their way out of this. But I feel the truth of the matter is on my side and they will have some difficulty trying to avoid admitting that to the judge. I will keep you posted.
Your Musical Moment for today features the Six Opus 47 String Trios of Luigi Boccherini. Today's performance is by Trio L'Europa Galante: Fabio Biondi (violin), Angelo Bartoletti (viola), & Maurizio Naddeo (cello). The play list includes String Trios No. 1 in A major (G. 107); No. 2 in G major (G. 108); No. 3 in B-flat major (G. 109); No. 4 in E-flat major (G. 110); No. 5 in D major (G. 111) and No. 6 in F major (G. 112). These trios date from 1793 and were composed between February and
October of that year. Compared with the 'great' trios, Opus 14 (1772)
and Opus 34 (1781), they are treated in a far simpler manner. These Opus
47 works, unlike their predecessors which consisted of three or even
four movements, have only two movements. Not one of them, incidentally,
is written in a minor key. You may also hear Boccherini's Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra No. 9 in B flat Major, G. 482 over on my tumblr.
As it is Thursday, it is time once again to delight your eyes with the visions of these delightful denizens in denim in this week's edition of Men In Jeans. Then there is also the sizzling salsa flavor of the Hottie of the Day! over on my tumblr for further fantasy fuel. Thanks for sharing your day with me, see you again tomorrow. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
