I got this email from Athlete Ally and thought you might want to join me to #StandWithSam:
Dear Supporter,
Michael Sam is on the brink of making history. As
the NFL Draft approaches, Michael hopes to become the first ever openly
gay NFL player. Let’s set the stage to welcome him into the the NFL
community.
While
there has been a strong show of support for Michael by the NFL, his
Missouri teammates, coaches and fans, there's also been speculation that
some teams won't draft an openly gay player. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel,
many NFL scouts would pass on the opportunity to draft Sam this week.
In fact, multiple media sources are questioning if teams will consider
welcoming Sam into the NFL. This, from Sporting News:
"Between
the overall uncertainty surrounding this year's draft, a fair debate
about exactly how much of an impact Sam could make and the unknown
factor of whether teams will shy away do to the hoopla that will follow
him, his range of potential landing spots is huge."
That's not fair play. We are #SamFans. Let the football world know that talent is what matters, not sexual orientation.
Since
his February announcement, Michael has been embraced by the athletic
community, including Athlete Ally Board Member and Super Bowl Champion Brendon Ayanbadejo, and Ambassadors Donte Stallworth, Scott Fujita and Chris Kluwe.
Standing with Sam will not
only help motivate him, but also show that every team in the NFL should
be ready for an openly gay player and that at its best, sport does not
discriminate. Michael’s exceptional talent, drive and leadership have
already gotten him this far. Our unified effort will help ensure that there’s no limit to what Michael will achieve next. Sign here.
Together, we #StandWithSam.
Hudson, Sam, Brian, Ethan, and the Athlete Ally team.
