Rick Is Still A Dick And So Are Pat, Bill and Frank!!!

It has been quite a week for dicks but not necessarily for the ones you over which you like to look and lust.  We started the week reporting on Rick 'The Dick' Snyder, Governor of Michigan.  When a temporary stay of Judge Friedman's ruling overturning Michigan's ban on Marriage Equality, Snyder made a statement saying Michigan would not recognize the 300 valid marriages that were performed in the small window for which they were allowed.  The temporary stay was issued at the request of Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette who had filed an appeal of Judge Friedman's ruling and requested the stay 10 minutes after Judge Friedman had issued his ruling.  Schuette said that "in 2004, the citizens of Michigan recognized that diversity in parenting is best for kids and families because moms and dads are not interchangeable," that "Michigan voters enshrined that decision in our state constitution, and their will should stand and be respected."

When the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals extended the stay indefinitely this week pending the adjudication of the appeal of the ruling striking down the ban, Governor Rick 'The Dick' stated that until the appeal is adjudicated, Michigan will continue to not recognize these valid marriages.  Attorney General 'Billy The Dick' reiterated his 'will of the people' argument standing on the 10th amendment to the US Constitution which reads:

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

'Billy The Dick' also said "The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that states, not the federal government, retain the constitutional authority to define marriage. Michigan's Constitution stands and the will of the people to define marriage as between one man and one woman endures in the Great Lakes State."  How very convenient that states rights coincided with his anti-Gay animus when such is not always the case.  

In 2008 when Michigan voters passed their Medical Marijuana Act with 63 percent in favor (the largest yes vote in the history of Michigan elections), 'Billy The Dick' claimed that the Federal Controlled Substances Act superseded the 'the will of the people' and the Federal law would be enforced.  He went even further against the 'will of the people'  when in 2009, he stood on the side of federal law, refusing to defend the MMMA's patient privacy protection, when the federal government issued subpoenas for names of patients and caregivers registered with the Michigan Medical Marijuana State Private Registry Program. Ignoring the law, and not even filing an objection to the request, he complied with the Subpoena and disseminated both patients and caregivers information to the federal government. 

In 2013, 'Billy The Dick'  issued an opinion on the return of Medical Marijuana to patients or caregivers when released from jail as provided in the Medical Marijuana Act.  Section 4(h) of the Medical Marijuana Act requires a law enforcement officer to return marijuana to a registered patient or primary caregiver upon release from custody. His claim was that this section is preempted by the Controlled Substances Act.  So you see, 'the will of the people' argument is only conveniently useful to 'Billy The Dick' when it fits in with his agenda.  

Yesterday I told you about the latest homophobic blabbings of televangelist Pat Robertson.  Blogger Michael Rohrer penned this Open Letter to Pat Robertson which you should read when you get a chanc, it is very good.  So now that brings us to the latest dick this week, Franklin Graham, son of famed evangelist Billy Graham.  In an interview with religion reporter Tim Funk of the Charlotte Observer posted to You Tube, Franklin Graham came off as a bigoted homophobic, Islamaphobic butt wipe.  In just the first 60 seconds of this interview viewers are treated to his condemnation of gay adoption as "recruitment," fear-mongering about a political gay agenda, as well as a strong endorsement of Russian president Vladimir Putin's harsh policies towards LGBT individuals.  Franklin claims to be speaking on issues out just like his dad,  who he said took unpopular but moral stands in his prime against racial segregation and communism.  The younger Graham said his comments criticizing gays and lesbians and others “living in sin” do spring from love.  “I love people enough and care enough,” Graham said, “to warn them … that if they chose to continue to live in sin, God is going to judge them one day and they’ll be separated from him for eternity in hell.”  Methinks he is the one who is going to be surprised when the time comes for his own judgement before God.

I really hate it when these homophobic religionists shroud their bigotry in the 'love of Jesus'.  I don't think Pat Robertson or Franklin Graham would know the true expression of the 'love of Jesus' if it bit them on the ass then took the chunk of their own ass and showed it to them.  So there you have a week full of dicks from politics and religion and not a pretty one in sight.  I think I need to go watch some porn to get the stench of their bigoted bull shit blabbings out of my nose.

As a warm up for tomorrow's continued Saturday at the Symphony exploration of Beethoven's complete Symphony Cycle in classic recordings by the Vienna Philharmonic, today's Musical Moment also features the music of Herr Beethoven with his 33 Variations on a Waltz by Anton Diabelli, Op. 120.  This work is a large-scale set of variations for solo piano by the German composer.  The main theme is based on a simple waltz composed by the Austrian music publisher and composer Anton Diabelli (1781-1858). The harmonic, rhythmic, textural and structural development that Beethoven applies to the waltz theme is simply astounding. In this 1985 live performance (St. Petersburg), the Russian pianist Grigory Sokolov does justice to Beethoven's work of genius.  You may also hear Sviastoslav Richter's live 1968 performance of Beethoven's Eroica Variations over on my tumblr.
