Marriage Equality is the Key to the Governor's Mansion in TX

This November, Texans will elect a new Governor to replace George W protegee and nitwit Rick Perry.  How Perry stayed in office this long is directly attributable to the heretofore almost unbreakable stranglehold conservative Republicans have had on state politics.  But as Bob Dylan always said, "The times, they are a changing".  In the Governor's race, the most likely candidates will be Democratic State Senator Wendy Davis of Fort Worth and the now famous abortion filibuster that brought her to national attention last year and the xenophobic neanderthal Republican Attorney General Greg Abbot.  Whether you believe it or not, the key to the Governor's Mansion in Austin may be Marriage Equality for Texans.

Senator Davis has called upon the Attorney General to stop defending the two lawsuits currently pending in Federal Court challenging the Texas Constitutional ban on Marriage Equality.  Davis has criticized Abbott for defending the Texas ban on same-sex marriage, saying the law violates the U.S Constitution’s guarantee of equal protection for homosexuals and the attorney general’s obligation should be to recognize injustices and work to rectify them rather than spend millions in taxpayer dollars on litigation.  Senator Davis recognizes the growing support for Marriage Equality in the state and knows that the issue is a winning one, especially with younger voters who just may turn out in droves for Senator Davis in order to drive a stake through the heart of the Republican Party.  The younger generations have grown up knowing LGBT folks as friends, family, classmates and coworkers and therefore do not fear them as an evil pestilence on the land.

Attorney General Abbot on the other hand knows his defense of the ban plays well with the older conservative crowd most likely to vote in the Republican primary.  However, this does not carry over into the general population and for the most part, Abbot is trying to sidestep the issue, saying a little as possible about the subject.  He insists his job is to defend laws passed by the legislature and has relied for several week's now on a statement by his spokesperson, Lauren Bean, in response to all inquiries on the Marriage Equality issue.  “The attorney general’s office will defend the Texas Constitution in this case just as we do in all cases where state laws are challenged in court,” Bean said. “The U.S. Supreme Court was clear that states have independent authority to establish their marriage laws. Texans adopted a constitutional amendment defining marriage. We will defend that amendment.”

Marriage Equality supporters contend that Abbot could negotiate a settlement in the lawsuits to produce a result that is best outcome for Texans, just like he did when the voting districts were being challenged in Federal Court.  In that case, the original redistricting map would not stand up to judicial scrutiny as that map was designed to give every advantage to the Republicans and weaken or destroy Democratic and minority constituencies their fair chance at representation.  Abbot like most of the old rich white guys that run things around here hates anything that is not old, rich, white and conservative Republican.  That may just cost him his shot at the Governor's Mansion.  I will be doing everything I can to support Senator Davis and insure that Abbot crashes and burns in his attempt at higher office.  If you live in Texas, I would urge you to do the same thing!

Now that I have finished my rant, how about a Musical Moment filled with some mellow Concerti for Bassoon by Antonio Vivaldi performed by I Musici and Klaus Thunemann on Bassoon.  Included in the play list are Bassoon Concerto in G, R.492; Bassoon Concerto in B flat, R.503; Bassoon concerto in F, RV.491; Bassoon concerto in A minor, RV.499; Bassoon Concerto in E minor, R.484; Bassoon concerto in G, RV.494; Bassoon concerto in G minor, RV.495; Bassoon concerto in D minor, RV.482 and Bassoon concerto in C, RV.472.  You may also hear the complete Overture to the Opera 'William Tell' by Gioacchino Rossini over on my tumblr.

Then to make your day and mine, the play list is followed by a diverse group of gorgeous guys on display for your visual appreciation in this week's edition of Tuesday's Temptations.  Then there is the 'Armani Angel', who is your Hottie of the Day! also on my tumblr for you to see and appreciate.  Thanks for sharing a part of your Tuesday with me, see you again soon.  Until next time as always, Enjoy!
