Good News/Bad News

In five states yesterday, 'religious freedom'  bills were up for consideration.  These bills would allow any business owner to openly discriminate against LGBT folks as long as they cited their religious beliefs as the reason for the discrimination.  This is called 'protecting' religious freedom which is in reality a license to discriminate against us Gay folks just like bans on Marriage Equality 'protect' traditional marriage.  Different guise, same bullshit.  The Good News is that in four of those states, Idaho, Kansas, South Dakota, and Tennessee either voted down, blocked, or backtracked on legislation in the states that would have allowed individuals, religious organizations, businesses, and, in the case of Kansas, government employees to discriminate against LGBT people in the form of denying services and other recognition based on religious beliefs.  In Arizona, however, both houses of the state legislature approved the bill and have sent it on to Governor Jan Brewer for her signature.  It remains to be seen if she will do the right thing and veto this bullshit or sign it and enshrine anti-Gay discrimination into law.  I am hoping for the former, but I am not holding my breath.  If Governor Brewer does sign the legislation, I would surely hope a court challenge would be mounted to overturn this malicious slap to the face of the LGBT citizens of Arizona.

Your Friday Musical Moment features the complete Sonatas for Recorder by Georg Friedrich Handel beautifully performed by Marion Verbruggen on Recorder, Ton Koopman on Harpsichord/Organ and Jaap ter Linden on Cello.  You may also hear Telemann's Suite for Recorder in A Minor over on my tumblr.   Today's video is followed by a salute to bears, cubs and otters in this week's edition of Furry Friday.  So far I have been unable to post a Hottie of the Day! photo on my tumblr for some odd reason, but I am working on that.  Thanks for stopping by, see you again soon.  Until next time as always, Enjoy!
