In what many prognosticators predicted would be a shootout between the two high flying offenses of the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles, what we got instead was a defensive struggle that kept both teams out of the End Zone in the first half of play. The Cowboys did manage a Field Goal in second quarter and the half ended with a meaningless Tony Romo interception in the End Zone on the last play. Dallas got untracked in the third quarter, scoring a Touchdown to go up 10-0. The Eagles did not get on the score board until the fourth quarter with a Field Goal. However, Dallas answered the Field Goal with a Touchdown to go up 17-3. Then Philadelphia Quarterback Nick Foles went down with a head injury. His replacement, Rookie Matt Barkley threw three interceptions in the fourth quarter and Dallas scored a rare road win in Philadelphia with 17-3 as the final score. This leaves them alone in first place in the NFC East with a 3-0 division record. While this is not an automatic ticket to the playoffs, it does bode well for the Cowboys. Next up are Detroit on the road and Minnesota at home, both games being very winnable for the Cowboys headed into the second half of the season.
There were a couple of barn burners elsewhere in the NFL as the Washington Redskins out lasted the Chicago Bears 45-41. The Sunday Night Football contest between Peyton Manning's Denver Broncos and the Indianapolis Colts was the first time Manning appeared in Lucas Oil Stadium (the house that Peyton built) not in a Colts uniform. Quarterback Andrew Luck and the Colts built a 33-17 lead before a furious comeback effort by Manning and the Broncos fell just short with the final tally 39-30 Colts.
In other news, Congratulations are in order for the citizens of New Jersey as they celebrate the first day of Marriage Equality in that state, despite the best efforts of Republican Governor Chris Christie to block the legalization. Newark Mayor and Senator elect Cory Booker married 7 couples at Newark City Hall shortly after midnight, however the first to join in matrimony were two 65 year old men who had been together for fifteen years, their ceremony celebrated by a retired Catholic priest. This makes 14 states and the District of Columbia with Marriage Equality with more to come as we continue to win the battle against bigotry and discrimination.
I am instituting something new for your Musical Moment today with a new feature, dubbed Monday with Mozart, that will start each week with some of my favorites from the pen of one of the most brilliant as well as prolific composers in the history of music. We kick off this segment today with String Quintets Kv 515 and Kv 516 with a performance recorded by the Kuyken String Quartet with the addition of Ryo Terakado as the additional Violinist. I foresee this being a long running segment as I don't think I will run out of Mozart Music selections anytime soon.
Then finally we have this weeks collection of beautiful bodies in the their Monday's Undies lounging about the page under the play list. Thanks for sharing part of your Monday with me, see you again tomorrow. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
