As most of you know, I am an avid reader and follow many a serialized story on the Internet. Every Saturday morning, I receive and email update from CRVBoy informing me of new stories and new chapters posted to the many stories I follow. This last Saturday there was a story posted by an author who had not previously posted at CRVBoy. Nicholas Hall's Parker's Love is short at just 13 chapters, but is an achingly beautiful story about retired economics professor Josiah Dickensen Parker or Parker as he likes to be called. Parker lives alone in a cabin surrounded by 320 acres carved out of a National Forest overlooking a lake in Northern Wisconsin, purchased many years before with his long time partner, Grant Ambrose Hoffman before Grant died of pancreatic cancer. Parker's lonesome life is disrupted by the arrival of his 14 nearly 15 year old son, the product of a short, disastrous marriage entered into after Grant's death, of which until meeting Jedidiah Dickensen Parker, he had no knowledge. Jed had been raised by his Grandmother who had just recently died. Parker's ex-wife, having no desire to take Jed back, dumped him on Parker's doorstep and left him there. As a means to get to know Jed and the boy to get to know him, Parker recount's his life story while garnering knowledge of Jed's upbringing as the boy opens up to him. The final chapter or epilogue is written from Jed's point of view after the death of his father. This story will warm your heart and bring a tear to your eye, but is ultimately a "love story, a story of commitment, endurance, and intense emotional
attachment; offering hope to those who feel there really is or will be
someone for them to love in their lives." As a hopeless romantic, I heartily recommend this story, it will only take a short time to read, but you will be richer for the reading.
