Friday's Items of Interest

Wow, the weekend is already upon us again!  It seems that this week has just flown by, it happens more often than not at my age.  When I was younger, time seemed to go on forever, not so much anymore, it just speeds on by.  I hope you guys had a great 4th of July, I know I did.  I did not just sit and vegetate, however, and I did find some interesting tidbits to share with you today.  As most of your probably already know, Google Reader bit the dust on the 1st of July and Feed Demon Lite along with it.  There is hope for you feed junkies out there, Feed Demon released its last version of Feed Demon Pro and it is free for the downloading!  Now you can have all the things you liked in Feed Demon Lite without the ads!  I tried a couple of the other readers, but I always come back to Feed Demon and the Pro version is right up my alley for all my feed needs.  Try it, you'll like it!

In  yesterday's post, we were celebrating how far we have come with all our recent gains.  Today, I want to share a little bit of how we got here from way back when.  To celebrate the Fourth Huffington Post Gay Voices posted a slide show about Gay American History showing slices of Gay life taken from the 2012 non-fiction Stonewall Book Award winner A Queer History of the United States by Michael Blonski.  The slide show is worth a look and the book is a must read if you are at all interested in how we got to where we are today and the heroes and heroines of our long struggle for equality.  You will find many things you might have known and a lot that you never heard of because it was suppressed by the mainstream history and media types.  A very good investment for those of you out there that need to know our history so we don't go down the road making a repeat of our mistakes while celebrating our victories.

Then for a bawdier look at Queer History, check out the Ten Lessons learned from 60's era Gay Skin Mags.  It is amazing to think that America was so hung up about porn and keeping it away from us, and the lengths Gay pioneers went to to get us the good stuff we wanted to see.  With the prolific availability of flesh available in  almost any format you want today, it is hard to think that there was a time it just wasn't that way.  I wish to God that I would have had some of the resources we seem to take for granted today when I was growing up a confused queer kid in the middle of red neck Texas.  Be very thankful for what we have today and continue the fight for more!

One of the more hidden sub genres of all that is Gay Life in America is that of those who identify as both Gay and Geek.  Thankfully there is hope for us all with a new video series, The Gay Geek Tackles You Tube!  Hosts Neil McNeil and Becca Canote educate, inform and entertain you with all things both Geek and Gay as they help all those closet Geeks among us Gays to come bursting out of  their Geeky Closets.  They put out a new vlog every other Friday and you can catch the first 4 episodes here.  Watch and get your Geek on!

Your Musical Moment for Friday features the music of Franz Joseph Haydn with two Cello Concerti, one in C and one in D performed by the late French Cellist and teacher, Maurice Gendron.  Try as I might, I could not find the album or CD from which these two pieces were taken and the video description did not fill in any of the blanks for me.  So I can't tell you the orchestra or conductor, however it is an excellent recording and well worth the listen.

Finally for today we have the traditional Friday collection of muscular men displaying all or most of their wares in this week's edition of Naked or Nearly So.  Thanks for spending part of your Friday here at Nichevo.  See you over the weekend for this week's review of the Best of the Web This Week.  Until next time as always, Enjoy!
