RI Senate Steps Up

Rhode Island is set to become the 10th state to permit Marriage Equality after yesterday's Senate vote for approval of the legislation, 26-12.  All 5 of the Republicans and 21 Democrats voiced their approval of the measure to bring Rhode Island into alignment with all the other New England States who already permit Marriage Equality.  The bill now goes back to the House for a largely procedural vote before going on to Governor Lincoln Chaffee who has vowed to sign it into law.  The first ceremonies would be allowed in August of this year.  The Marriage Equality vote was applauded nation wide by the LGBT community, notables, politicians and activists.  I would like to add my congratulations to the citizens of Rhode Island on this momentous occasion of great joy.
