After a peaceful and restful night off, I am ready to get back at it. Good thing as today is payday with its lists of chores and errands to perform as well as work tonight. I did note some great things in the news as I grazed through all my feeds. From Big Sky country we get the good news that they have finally removed the criminalization of homosexuality from the books. Although it has been unconstitutional (and unenforced) since being struck down by Montana's Supreme Court in 1997, it is still a great thing to get out from over the head of the LGBT citizens of Montana. Texas still has their law against sodomy on the books even though it was struck down 10 years ago in the famed Lawrence v Texas ruling of SCOTUS. The Republicans in Texas are real foot draggers when it comes to advancing LGBT Civil Rights. Meanwhile in Cali, the State Senate advance a bill that if it does become law would strip the tax exempt status from groups that do not comply with Cali's non-discrimination laws (ie The Boy Scouts). That could put a real hurt in their fundraising efforts as they would have to disclose sources and pay taxes on all donations of support. I would like to see a law like that for highly politicized religious groups and churches. It might tone down the animus filled rhetoric if it hurt them in the pocket book which it should if they are going to engage in politics instead of religion.
In International news, Marriage Equality won big as both Uruguay and France approved measures to permit nationwide Marriage Equality for same sex couples. Uruguay's law also brings equality to divorce and adoption bringing the rights of women and same sex couples into line with men and heterosexual couples. France also approved nationwide adoption rights for same sex couples. The nations become the 12th and 13th nations to offer Marriage Equality to its citizens. Uruguay also will permit international couples to visit and marry legally. Day by Day, step by step, we as LGBT people are getting closer to world wide Equality. I am getting impatient for the US to catch up with these enlightened nations of the world.
Then for your feel good moment of the day comes the video from those two adorable out Marines Russ and Matt with their new video, Waking up with Two Gay Marines. Russ and Matt are just too adorable for words and a great deal of fun to watch.
