Cowboys in 2nd Place With Win VS Eagles + The Quartet of Peace + Monday's Undies

The Dallas Cowboys got off to a good start to the second half of the season with the win over the Eagles in Philadelphia.  Both teams scored on their opening possessions before settling into a tug of war for the rest of the half with the Cowboys eking out a field goal to lead at the half 10-7.  The Eagles lost Quarterback Michael Vick to a concussion midway through the second quarter and had to substitute rookie Nick Foles in his NFL debut.  The Eagles came out firing  on all cylinders in the Third Quarter, scoring 10 points to take a 17-10 lead.  Then Tony Romo did what Tony Romo does.  Tony scrambled out of the arms of two would be sackers, then escaped two other tacklers before throwing a 25 yard strike to receiver Miles Austin to extend the drive.  This seemed to ignite the Cowboys as shortly thereafter, Tony Romo threw a bullet to Dez Bryant in the End Zone for a Touchdown to tie the game at 17 on the last play of the Third Quarter.  In the ensuing Eagle possession, the Cowboys forced a 3 and out with a 49yard punt to returner Dwayne Harris who immediately scampered untouched down the far sideline for 78 yards and a Touchdown to put the Cowboys up 24-17.  On the Eagles next possession, QB Nick Foles threw the Cowboys an immaculate interception that bounced off the hands of the Eagle receiver LeSean Jackson, the thigh pad of a Cowboy defender Ernie Sims and into the waiting arms of Linebacker Brandon Carr who outran the Eagle offense for another Touchdown to put the Cowboys up 31-17.  The Eagles did not die easy, however as they stopped the Cowboys late in the Fourth Quarter after they scored their own Touchdown.  They missed the Extra Point when it clanged off the left upright to leave the Cowboys with an 8 point lead at 31-23.  The Eagles then stopped the next Cowboy drive, however the Cowboys pinned the Eagles deep in their own territory  with a great punt.  The Cowboys then sacked QB Nick Foles in the End Zone knocking the ball loose which was recovered by Darrin Hatcher in the End Zone for the final Dallas score making it 38-23.  It was the second game in a row without a turnover by the Cowboys and the first time in team history when the Cowboys had scored off a punt return, an interception return and a fumble return for Touchdowns in a single game.  The Giants were blown out by the Bengals 31-14 earlier in the day giving them 5 losses to go along with their six wins with their bye week coming this Sunday when the Cowboys play Cleveland at home.  If the Cowboys beat Cleveland that would put them just 1/2 game back of the Giants with 6 games to go against some pretty weak opponents.  Only one of the Cowboys final 7 games is against a team with a winning record.  The stage is set, let's see if the Cowboys man up and take advantage of the opportunity they have to win some games and drive into the playoffs with some momentum.

I have a rather interesting video for your listening pleasure today.  In a December 2010 London Chamber Music Society Concert at Kings Place, London; The Quartet of Peace was honored to have such fine musicians perform at one of the inaugural concerts; David Juritz - Leader of the London Mozart Players, Suzanne Martens - Leader of the Amici Quartet, Gareth Lubbe - Principal viola of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig, Germany and Peter Martens - cellist of the Amici Quartet.  The Quartet of Peace is the name given to four handcrafted string instruments, each dedicated to one of South Africa's four Nobel Peace Laureates – Albert Luthuli, Desmond Tutu, FW de Klerk and Nelson Mandela. The instruments were made in Cape Town by master craftsman Brian_Lisus. The Quartet of Peace project has two purposes. The first is to promote in South Africa the ideals of peace, reconciliation, mutual tolerance, freedom and hope, encapsulated in the lives of the four dedicatees. The vehicles for achieving this vision will include musical performance, directly or indirectly involving the Quartet instruments, locally and internationally. The second purpose is the provision of scholarships or other forms of financial assistance to individuals from disadvantaged communities, who have exceptional talent in such fields as musical performance and instrument-making and repair. The institutional arrangements for managing the initiative are currently under investigation. This may be by means of a stand-alone Trust or as part of an existing project with compatible objectives and activities.  The video today with the performance of  the String Quartet in F Major by Maurice Ravel playing in the background on the Quartet of Peace instruments, Brian Lisus explains and illustrates the making of the Peace Violin from the first shaving of wood to the inaugural gala concerts.  It is a fascinating story and an equally fascinating process as the Quartet of Peace instruments are completely hand made by Lisus.  Watch this marvelous video with me:
