TGIF

The week has flown by and here we are at the cusp of another weekend.  I don't think I will have as much fun during this one as last, but then I have to work all weekend starting with truck night tonight.  That does not preclude me from coming up with a little something to get your weekend off to a great start.  Musically I have a real treat for you today with some Renaissance music from the 16th century by Portuguese composer Manuel Rodrigues Coelho.  This performance is by the musical group Circa 1500 featuring Countertenor Gerard Lesne, Nancy Hadden on Flute, Erin Headley  on Viola da Gamba and Lira da Gamba and Christopher Wilson on Lute and Guitar.  There are a great number of individual pieces in the video you will find listed in the video description, however it is written in Portuguese which may hinder you somewhat.  From what I can tell through the use of my Google Translator, the music tells of a war where the King of Portugal was in aid of the son of the late Sultan of Morrocco whose throne was usurped by his uncle.  In the pivotal battle of Alcazarquirvir, both the King of Portugal and the usurper of the Morroccan throne  were  killed and the throne restored to the rightful heir, the son of the late Sultan.  The vocal pieces are sung in Old Portuguese, negating  my comprehension, however the music is hauntingly beautiful making for a very mellow listening experience.  While you are mellowing out to the music, I will attempt to infuse some fire in your loins with a sizzling and sensual edition of Naked or Nearly So for your visual edification.  I hope this kick starts your weekend in appropriate manor.  Be sure to stop by tomorrow for this week's review of the Best of the Web This Week, see you then.  Until next time as always, Enjoy!
