Well, I paid for yesterday's gift of getting off on time by having to work an hour over this morning. Now I am trying to relax a bit so I can enjoy my day off, I think I will turn my phone off so I can't be called upon for anything, lol! Luckily I did my prep work for today's post last night before going in so I am in good shape already. My featured composer for today was a student at the Moscow Conservatory founded by Nikolai Rubenstein, brother of yesterday's featured composer, Anton Rubenstein. He was taught composition by none other than Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and was the Pianist at the Moscow premiere of both Tchaikovsky's First and Second Piano Concerti. He was also the first person ever to be awarded the Conservatory's Great Gold Medal; the second was Arseny Koreshchenko and the third was Sergei Rachmaninoff. The piece I have chosen for today is Symphony Number 3 in D Minor (1884) by Sergei Taneyev performed by the Russian State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Valery Polyanski. The symphony was written as Sergei was approaching the age of 30 and right before he became the Director of the Moscow Conservatory. The Third Symphony was dedicated to Anton Arensky, Taneyev's younger colleague at the Moscow Conservatory and one of his closest friends. Taneyev himself directed the première in 1885 in Moscow, the only performance during his lifetime, and the next performance followed more than thirty years later in 1916, a year after Taneyev's death. The score was published in 1947 in Moscow. The video is followed by this week's edition of those Sexy Studs in Swimwear to remind us all that somewhere in the world it is still warm and mostly naked kind of weather. Thanks for stopping in today, see you again tomorrow. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
