It is Friday and the weekend is looming large in all our minds as the clock ticks down to quitting time and happy hour. With the party season gearing up for its hectic onslaught culminating in the New Year's Eve celebration, the next few weeks should be full of festivities for all to enjoy. To help get things started I have some really great music for you today. I am sticking with my seeming theme of the week of works for Piano with a Russian flavor. Today's play list is the three movements of the Piano Concerto Number 2 in C Minor, Opus 18 by Sergei Rachmaninov performed by Evginy Kissin and the London Symphony Orchestra called by some "the most beautiful piano concerto ever written." The video description has this to say:
"At its 1897 premiere, Rachmaninov's first symphony, though now considered a significant achievement, was derided by contemporary critics. Compounded by problems in his personal life, Rachmaninov fell into a depression that lasted for several years. His second piano concerto confirmed his recovery from clinical depression and writer's block. The concerto was dedicated to Nikolai Dahl, a physician who had done much to restore Rachmaninov's self-confidence."
The concerto is truly beautiful and this is a fabulous recording by Kissin and the LSO with some excellent artwork throughout the videos. If you are not into artwork, you can always scroll down the page while listening to the music where you will find a bevy of beautiful men who are Naked or Nearly So with which to fuel your fantasies for a Friday night (or any other time you would want to indulge yourself, he he). Have a fantastic weekend and be sure to stop by tomorrow for this week's review of the Best of the Web This Week. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
