Pretty Words

"Tropical Island Sunset"

The President spoke to the NAACP convention yesterday saying the following pretty words:

  • Said Obama: "The first thing we need to do is make real the words of your charter and eradicate prejudice, bigotry, and discrimination among citizens of the United States. I understand there may be a temptation among some to think that discrimination is no longer a problem in 2009. And I believe that overall, there probably has never been less discrimination in America than there is today. But make no mistake: the pain of discrimination is still felt in America. By African-American women paid less for doing the same work as colleagues of a different color and a different gender. By Latinos made to feel unwelcome in their own country. By Muslim Americans viewed with suspicion simply because they kneel down to pray to their God. By our gay brothers and sisters, still taunted, still attacked, still denied their rights. On the 45th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, discrimination must not stand. Not on account of color or gender; how you worship or who you love. Prejudice has no place in the United States of America."

I love the pretty words, what I don't like is the lack of action to back up the pretty words. The old axiom "actions speak louder than words" comes into play here. As many pretty words as Mr Obama has spoken throughout his campaign and as President of these United States, the lack of positive action on his part to ensure the civil rights of ALL Americans speaks volumes louder than said pretty words. Mr Obama can make all the pretty speeches he wants, but until we see some action on his part to back up his pretty words I for one will continue to rail against this lack of action on his part. I believed in him during the campaign and waited to see if he would follow through. To say I am wholly disappointed at this time would be an massive understatement. I think he is pussing out and not showing the dynamic leadership on our issues that he promised. I am tired of pretty words, it is now time for positive action and support on these issues, or he may loose our communities support and the next election as well. The GLBT community helped to elect him, we can help unelect him too. Mr Obama, I hope you are listening!

This is Fraturday for me so I will be working my ass off while you guys are out enjoying your weekend, but I get my turn when I am off and you are working during the week. To kick off the weekend I have gathered some photos from my archives of the Young and Innocent? to inspire your desire once again. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
