A Journey of Musical Discovery

"Red Giant"

What a wonderful weekend I had. Fraturday did not turn out to be so bad after all. Before he left for the evening, A asked me to switch shifts for Saturday from 6-4 to 2-10. I readily agreed, 8 hours versus 10 hours plus a chance to get some sleep too, 4 sure a good deal. It also meant the opportunity for some quality time with Will without having to rush off to bed to get some rest before doubling back to work. Will and I made the most of our time too in a pleasant musical journey of discovery. Will in his many wanderings on the web ran across this video which I am unable to embed here. However it lead to his search for more information on the musical artist(s) credited in the video. Thus began our most pleasant journey of discovery of the musical organization known as Immediate Music and their diverse collection of composers and musicians. While the name may not be familiar to you, I am almost certain everyone of you has heard some of the music produced by this stellar musical organization. The following is from their Wikipedia page:

"Immediate Music is a music composition company based in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, that is notable for providing a specialized library of high-end trailer music for commercial motion pictures. Their style of rousing, propulsive orchestral music is similar to that produced by X-Ray Dog, Future World Music, Brand X Music, Two Steps From Hell, Pfeifer Broz. Music, Epic Score, Audiomachine in the trailer music template created by industry pioneer John Beal.

Since 1992, Immediate Music has licensed music from its library to hundreds of theatrical trailers and television spots for major studios including Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Walt Disney Pictures, 20th Century Fox and Dreamworks. Their music has been featured in the campaigns for many major motion pictures; including Spider-Man 2, I, Robot, Troy, Alien vs. Predator, The Island, Van Helsing, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Wall-E, Iron Man, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, The Incredible Hulk, Valkyrie, Defiance and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

In 2006, Immediate Music announced that it would be releasing its first commercial album under the commercial name of Globus. The style of Globus, whose first album will be entitled EPICON, can be described as modern cinematic orchestral music fused with contemporary and world music rhythms."

Will and I spent the next few hours listening to and discovering more information about this marvelous group of musicians. Both Immediate Music and Globus have their own websites where you could spend literally hours enraptured with the music found there. A list of composers involved in their many projects can be found on their Wiki page and a list of their thousands of credits can be found here. An enterprising You Tuber has uploaded a lot of videos of their music among other things that can be found on his page of which I have posted what I think are the best examples of the breadth and depth of their work. You can see a video montage of their movie credits made of movie trailers from their various projects on this page. and you can buy the debut album by Globus, Epicon, directly from their music label, Imperativa Records, here. I hope you enjoy this journey of musical discovery as much as Will and I did while we were on it ourselves. As you watch the videos below and at the various sources linked to above, you will find yourselves saying "wow, I remember hearing this in the movie...".

There is more to tell about the weekend but I have rambled on too long already today so we will get right on to the music which is followed by this week's edition of Monday's Undies to beguile and entertain you. Check back tomorrow for more from this past weekend. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
