Histoire de l'arte

"Nature's Palette Beneath The Sea"

VDW2 (Video Discovery Week Day 2) finds us in Paris, France for a visit with Erwan of Canal Educatif who had emailed me last week inviting me to view the first of his English language videos due to my interest in art and classical music. Canal Educatif and their main website promote learning and education through videos and interactive participation on their main page in the fields of The Arts, Economics and Science & Innovation. For now most of the videos, the You Tube Page and the main website are in French. As I do not read or speak French, I was not able to fully comprehend the scope of their mission but from what I can see, They have an extensive data base and multiple resources in all fields to support the dissemination of their educational information. The video I have for you today is their initial foray into English which delves into the seeming obsession of Auguste Rodin with his monumental sculpture "The Gates of Hell". I enjoyed the video very much, and I leaned a lot I did not know which for me is always a good thing. The video is 26 minutes long, so set aside a half hour, grab a cuppa your fave and discover Auguste Rodin and his sculpture, The Gates of Hell.

While technically not a new discovery, Classical Music Only having appeared in these pages previously, the piece of music I have posted to day is one that I, to my recollection, had never heard. That therefore qualifies it as a new discovery to fit in with the theme this week. The piece is the second movement, the largo, of a double violin concerto in D minor written by Johann Sebastian Bach between 1730 and 1731 in Leipzig while he was director of the Collegium Musicum there. Then to finish off the artistic day we have going here, I thought we would have a look see at some hotties whose bodies are the canvas for various works of art, some simple, some highly intricate. Continue your exercise in art appreciation as you view these Men With Ink, I will expect a written report in the morning (lol). oh and btw, Happy St. Patrick's Day, too! Until next time as always, Enjoy!
