One Day in the Big City
Well winter has struck the big city today, it is cold and foggy here with a wind. I went to work without a coat yesterday as it was a balmy 60 degrees with a slight breeze. By the time I got off it had dropped 30 dregrees and the wind had built to what felt like 40 mph when it was in reality only 30 mph, but still it was fricking cold walking back across the street to the house. The wind has died somewhat but it is still cold out. I am warmed by the fact that it is warmer here than up north where Will is (Omaha is a 13 degrees as I write this). I have him on IM for our morning chat while I put this together before getting ready for work. I have been trying to catch up with some of the news and the biggest flap around lately seems to be the "No Mob Veto" ad in the NY Times by a goup of religious consevatives claiming to be "victims" of bigotry and hate perpetrated by Gay people on them. What a fucking laugh. However this is a serious issue, you can read Wayne Besen's excellent column about it here. His organization Truth Wins Out will be announcing initiatives to counter these blatant lies today and I will keep you posted. You can also add your voice and a letter to the editor of the NYT at this HRC link. There is also some concern among LGBT activists that President-elect Obama has not made a major Out appointment to a cabinet or advisory post although there are a couple in consideration for positions in the administration. I am hoping our backing of his candidacy was not in vain, and I do not think it is, however it will bear close watching by all of us to ensure promised made are promises kept. We eill keep our eyes open and let you know our opinion on events as they transpire.
Things are getting better daily at the store as we work out the kinks. We have had some good people apply for positions who seem to want to buy into our program. This means those who are not contributing to the cause will be moving out of the way soon as we train new people who want to work to take their place. I love watching the transformation from confusion and chaos to order and efficiency. I also love being a catalyst or agent of change in this process. My body clock has almost completely caught up to a day rather than night schedule therefore my energy level is back up where it should be. It will be a late day for me today as I have an order to do which I will not have time to do while on the register. I will be glad when we develop someone approaching my speed at the register so I can be freed up to do other things. Again this is just a process of training and practice. I would say we are right on schedule as far as the plan and heading in the right direction.
Oh, I must give credit to Will, who has supplied all the lead photos this week from his collection while wandering the www. I will feature his collection up top for the next few days. Today's photo is his current desktop and one of his favorites. He also sent me the link to this video which I enjoyed very much. Embedding was disabled by request so you will have to visit the You Tube page to watch. It is a music video by the Turkish pop artist Tarkan. I do not know what he is singing about but the face and the dancing are definitely worth the watching, check it out.
That brings us to this weeks edition of Hump Day Hunks to get you over this weeks hump and headded to the weekend with plenty of inspiration. There is one photo in particular that cause me to stop and relieve the pressure below my belt before I could continue to select photos for today. Can you guess which one? Leave your guesses int he comments. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
