Tropical Storms and Political BS

For most of you in the USA it is your Monday although in actuality it is Tuesday. The day definitely has a Monday feel to it as the storms associated with Gustav have finally reached us. Nothing bad, just lots of rain, the fury of the storm having expended itself over land leaving only the rain. The storm did knock out the power for a little while in our hotel in Shreveport but they are back on now. We still have the house full, the powers that be are not letting people back into the areas around NOLA just yet, so most of our guests are holding on here until they are allowed back home to asses the damage. We have not been able to offer the local party crowd any rooms because of all the evacuees, much to the chagrin of the citizens of the night around here. There are also many makeshift campsites in parking lots large and small around the area as there are no more hotel rooms left in the state (we have been advising travelers to try Tennessee and Oklahoma for available rooms). I went to the desk to collect my mail (I got movies today! yea!) passing through the dome to avoid the rain. I have not seen this many people in the pool and gaming areas in quite some time. With all the rain outside, everyone is taking advantage of our indoor recreational facilities to pass their time waiting out the storm. Thankfully from all reports I have heard, Gustav was the milder mannered cousin of Katrina, so not a s much damage. However Hannah is churning up quickly and there are a couple more forming up in the south Atlantic and another has rounded Capetown, South Africa and is heading northward. We may be in for an extended period of repeated storms along the same general pathway that could deal some damage to the southern and eastern coastlines. The powers that be have been predicting a real "mean season" the last couple of years and have not gotten it, this year I think they are going to get more than they bargained for. I hope the idiot in the White House and his hopeful replacement stay out of the area with their fake compassion and photo ops while the real help is working to assist the people to recover from the storm.

Speaking of the idiot in the White House's hopeful replacement, his "masterstroke" of a selection for VP is beginning to bite him in the ass. Governor Palin who is supposedly pro-life and wants to restrict a woman's right to abortion, herself has a 17 year old daughter who is 5 months pregnant whom she gave a choice of abortion, adoption or marriage. Her daughter chose marriage and Governor Palin is "proud of her decision to have the child". Looks like restricted rights are all right for other people but not her people. The Republican double standard strikes again. For more interesting tidbits about McPain's VP choice read the Top Ten Most Disturbing Facts and Impressions of Sarah Palin. This choice was reckless and thoughtless. This Governor is even less experienced in international affairs or even complex government affairs of a populous state than they claim for their opponent and she lied outright in her first speaking appearance with McPain about the "Bridge to Nowhere" project. Do we really need 4 more years of lies, ineptitude, graft, corruption and obfuscation? I think not. Come November I hope the majority of America wakes up to the fact that the Goddamned Olde Pharts care nothing for anyone but themselves and their pocketbooks and the people be damned. I for one will be making a bee line for the polls to cast my vote for Obama/Biden. If America is to survive intact and progress past the last eight years of failure, disgust and despair, we all must do what we can to ensure the success of the Obama/Biden Campaign. It is not too late for America, but we cannot afford to waste another fours years on failed policies and a total lack of intelligence in the highest reaches of our Government.

OK, enough of the soap box and on to entertainment. In Video Nichevo today we have Davey Wavey's How to Be Positive in Today's World, sxephil's God Hates Women? and a weeks worth of Holly Oaks to catch you up to this week, tomorrow I will post more Holly Oaks from this week and hopefully some Nuke too.
