You are all aware by now of my various trials and tribulations in regards to the upgrade in my computer equipment. Well today we have begun the grand experiment in geek wizardry 301a and b. I currently run with two hard drives, one of which is from my original DellGXA PII from way back and the other is a couple years old and 5 times larger. In essence I am combining all my assets onto one drive and laying the other to rest. I have moved everything I can on to the smaller C drive such as programs and documents. However the Videos and Photos I have will not fit. The solution I have found is to create zip files with my handy 7zip program and then upload them to an on line file storage that I subscribed to for $5.95 for 25 GB for one month. Once I get the photos and videos uploaded then I have a program driveimage.xml that will mirror my C drive onto my D drive. At that point I can lay my original C drive to rest and make the larger one my C drive. Then of course I can down load my photos back onto my hard drive and away we go once more. One more improvement I am making to maximize the performance of this platform is I have finally found the correct 1 GB PC3200 DDR Ram that is made for my machine and two sticks will be here on Wednesday which should speed up the process somewhat. In the end I will have 2 GB ram with a 2.6 Ghz processor and 100 GB hard drive plus my cd/dvd and floppy drives. I must say my progress from neophyte geek to mildly skilled and dangerous semi geek wizard has been a terrifically interesting journey. I will keep you posted as the experiment continues.
