Moloa's Beach, Kauai, Hawaii
I know you guys have been waiting to hear the rest of the story of my weekend adventure, I was going to write it up yesterday. However, yesterday turned into somewhat of a sticky wicket and I just did not have time to write it. Let me see where where we last? Oh, yes, just finishing up on Saturday night's shift when the packed house came down for breakfast and stay overs so the tail end of my day was very busy indeed, causing my expected departure to be delayed by half an hour. By this time of the weekend, having had but six hours sleep since Wednesday, I was a walking zombie but my day was not yet finished. As you know work has prevented me from attending services at Open Door for about five or six weeks now, so I had arranged for friends to pick me up so I could go today. I especially wanted to go today because it was Care Team Sunday and our team was meeting out at DNB's house on the river in Faulkner County. So with no time for Uncle to rest, I changed into Sunday casuals and caught my ride to church. It was like I had never been gone except for some new faces. I knew all the songs we sang and they were in my vocal range and the message was uplifting and empowering. The real treat came though when we got out to the Care Team meeting. DNB, whose home I had never visited, live some 30 or 40 minutes out in the boonies in in a quiet neighborhood alongside the Arkansas River. Their home is a two story red brick affair with tall Doric columns in front and two big rocking chairs on the front porch. It is a really beautiful home befitting two gentlemen who spent the last 22 years building their lives together. Out back is a Patio and a large back yard with garden looking over the river. The house sits on a small bluff that falls off to a sandy beach right below their house. For those of you who do not know what a Care Team is, it is a subdivision of the congregation which is used for social interaction and community support. We grilled burgers and had many a marvelous conversation with a widely diverse group. We had a young lesbian couple with a baby, several other couples male and female, a lovely trans-gendered lady and even my favorite straight couple who introduced me to Open Door. Therein lies a small problem as far as descriptors go. Our hosts, DNB, and my favorite couple both have one partner with the same name as the other, the remaining partner's names begin with the same first two letters. So for sake of identification, our hosts are DaBro and my favorite couple is DaBri. The Rev was there also, not Pastor Randy but another ordained minister with an interesting story. He was defrocked when they discovered his orientation and is having all that drama in his life right now. We all sat around the patio or the family room or gathered around the kitchen counter just moving comfortably among ourselves enjoying the freedom to just be together in a wonderful atmosphere of camaraderie. After we had all eaten and were in varying stages of relaxation (read lethargy) some of the leaders of the team called me into one of the studies . I walked into a little meeting and wondered what was up It seemed they needed my input to help resolve the Rev's situation. His church had kicked him out of his place to live and he was between places. They wanted to know if we could make some arrangements at the hotel. I called Mr Tag to get approval to take a check from the church and set up a place for him until he gets into his dorm (he is returning to school). Even in my semi delirious state of fatigue, I could still do something to help some one else and that left me feeling very good. The Rev and I returned to the hotel about 4 pm where we got him moved him and I went to my place to lock out the world. I talked to Will a few minutes on Skype then fell in to bed where I slept for about ten hours before waking up in the wee hours and beginning to write the tale of my adventure.
So there you have it, this week has gone by so quickly, and I am hoping this weekend is just as satisfying but not quite so tiring. I ended the weekend with a new zippy computer and more new friends. Not a bad ending even despite the fatigue. Just a quick note to say thank you to Will who had a copy of Photoshop7 that he sent to me via messenger so I am functional once more there and I almost have my bookmarks back in shape. I will have lots of overtime on the is check so I am going to break down and get me a digital camera so you guys can have some pics of my adventures. No video today just a few good men posted right below but there was a great op-ed piece in the Daily Iowan Gay Rights Opponents Are Perverts. Until next time as always, Enjoy.
