A Sergeant's Courage

A Bedroom Deck Sunrise

On Thursday in the rotunda of a Congressional Office building in Washington, a young soldier courageously stood up and declared to the world that he would not deploy to Iraq. Moments before he had listened tearfully as fellow veterans testified before Congress about the travesty that is this war. Sgt Matthis Chiroux is among the growing number of service members joining ranks with Iraq Veterans Against The War to protest George's blundering quagmire that is death trap for soldiers and a cash cow for his cronies. Sgt Chiroux said:
  • "I stand before you today with the strength and clarity and resolve to declare to the military, my government and the world that this soldier will not be deploying to Iraq," Chiroux said in the sun-filled rotunda of a congressional building in Washington.

"My decision is based on my desire to no longer continue violating my core values to support an illegal and unconstitutional occupation… I refuse to participate in the Iraq occupation," he said, as a dozen veterans of the five-year-old Iraq war looked on.

You can read the whole Sgt Refuses To Go To Iraq story on AlterNet and you can see the video of his statement here. In my era many war protesters fled to Canada to escape the war just as they are today, but SGt Chiroux has vowed to stay in US to face whatever the Army may throw at him for his own personal stand against hypocrisy, stupidity and unnecessary death and disfigurement at the hands of the government in an unjust war. I applaud his courage and his stand, too bad George and his buddies aren't listening, they are too busy laughing their way to the bank with our money.

To lighten up a little we have some video for you today with the remaining episodes of Holly Oaks from Thursday and Friday as well as Part Four of the Great Classical Composers series. This of course is followed immediately with today's selections in the eye candy section. That is it for now, we will catch you here tomorrow for the next step in our journey. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
