Photography And Politics

Tres Lagunas, Peru

Over the course of time, I have received many comments, compliments and questions about the photography I feature here at Nichevo. Since acquiring a computer of my own a few years back, I have made a consistent search for imagery appealing to me. In years prior to getting a computer I collected print images. I use a variety of sources available to me to provide you with the images you see here. I now own a printer/copier/scanner which allows me to render printed images into a digital format for my use. I spend many enjoyable hours scouring the internet for photos that appeal to me. I also have memberships to websites like Web Shots and Foto Community that provide excellent photography of images not necessarily human in nature. I have a feature in my FireFox2 browser called Stumble Upon that allows me to literally stumble upon sites unknown to me as defined by customizable search criteria which leads me to even more sites that provide interesting or inspiring photographs or commentary. Another source is photographers themselves like Biron and Henning von Berg who send me photographs to use as well as you readers who have sent enumerable images for display here. I am also a member of many groups at Yahoo! that feature photos of various genres in their depiction of the male body as an art form. My collection of male photographs is somewhere between 50,000 and 60,000 and when you add the non human images to that number it grows to between 80 and 100 thousand images. So you see I am never at a lack for inspiration when it comes to photography to feature here at Nichevo. The hard part is determining which photos to feature on any given day, but that is a task for which I have a knack along with a genuine enthusiasm. Fun with photos is one of my favorite games. I have two main photo manipulation programs, Picasa2 from Google and Photoshop7 from Adobe which I use in combination for presentation. I hope this answers all your questions, if not drop me a line or a comment and I will answer as completely as I can.

In the political arena, Sunday marked a sad day for America as the number of lives wasted in Iraq reached 4000 as yet another roadside bomb killed 4 soldiers on patrol. I am a combat veteran of the last highly unpopular war, Viet Nam for those who are too young to remember it, yet I cannot in all honesty support the war in Iraq. I support our troops as they are victims in this along with their families and friends but can in now way support the governments assertions of justification for the current campaign. This is a war based on outright lies to the American people perpetrated by an administration so self serving as to be blind to the will of those same people to whom they have lied. In addition to the horrible cost in lives lost, there are those who survive in less than optimal physical or mental condition for which again this inept and corrupt administration has no sense of compassion whatsoever. The only thing this administration cares for is itself and its cronies who line their pockets at the public trough while ignoring the very real problems facing many Americans today.

I have watched the current campaigns for a successor to the current ineptness present in the White House trying to carefully discern which candidate would be my preference come election time in November. In truth, it has been a difficult decision until just recently when events have shown the true colors of the candidates for the Democratic nomination. The Republicans on the other hand have their nominee in Senator McCain for which a vote would mean another 4 years of mindless ineptitude, pocket lining and a continued waste of lives in a horrible war akin to the current occupant of the White House. If you want 4 more years of Bush, just cast your vote for McCain. That bring us back to the conundrum of the Democratic nomination. Either candidate would be a historic nomination as both are a member of a demographic not usually represented in Presidential politics. However in last few weeks we have seen politics as usual from the Clinton campaign which is desperately trying to derail the increasingly robust Obama campaign. I have been waffling on the fence but have finally decided after reading the text of Senator Obama's speech given last week in Philadelphia. You can view the video and read the text for yourself here via Towleroad. I feel that Senator Obama would be the best choice for me personally and for this country. Inexperience be damned, Lincoln and Kennedy had no experience either yet one preserved this country in its greatest crises and the other inspired Americans to be and do more than they thought they could. None of the three men is or were perfect, as none of us are, but Senator Obama has the foresight necessary to see beyond the obfuscations and political chicanery thrown in his and our paths while embodying the essence of what America is really all about. America is a place where anyone and everyone has a right to a place at the table. The reality does not always live up to the ideas set forth in Constitution, yet we must continue to strive for the "more perfect union" by uniting as Americans not dividing and fighting among our various factions. No society is perfect yet we here in America have the freedom to strive towards that goal. I believe Senator Obama is the healing balm needed for the wounds from which we now suffer. I believe he can unite us once again and bring to an end the bitterness and divisiveness brought about by the current administration's policies and actions. You may not feel the same way, but that is your right. My right is to believe as I do. That is the beauty of America. While we may disagree, we can still work together to make tomorrow better than today for all Americans no matter what our particular label may be. The one label we should all wear proudly is that of American. I believe Senator Obama can restore integrity to the White House and our pride in our country that has been so thoroughly trashed by Bush and the boys around him. I just hope that most of America will come to agree with me and put Senator Obama in office sweeping in a new day in which we can all be proud to be an American once more.

O K, sermon over. I will close with your man fix for today and we will catch you here again tomorrow. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
