I am in a rather melancholy mood tonight. I just finished watch a movie from 1997 entitled "Defying Gravity". It is a wonderful , touching, sad and sweet tale of the coming out of a frat rat complete with angst, a gay bashing and heart warming acceptance by the straight best friend with a little diversity thrown in for good measure. At the hear of the movie is the tale of two guys in love, one out and one not, both in the same fraternity at a fictional California College. The Campus scenes were filmed at USC while the greater Southern California area provide the rest of the films backdrop. I am always a sucker for a good romance and this film gives you the romance and the angst of the struggle between what "should" be and what is . I have seen the film before, but had forgotten I had until I started watching . However, like the film "Latter Days" (another favorite) this film is worth watching again from time to time. the acting is mostly good and the production values are great with a superb soundtrack. The DVD has the option of playing just the sound track which, after watching the film, I did several times. I highly recommend this film for viewing alone or with that special friend, you will find it at your local Blockbuster store. If only real life played out like a movie, eh?
Speaking of real life, Ryan over at Boys Are Ugly is ill with another round of the flu, so stop on over and spread some love and get well wishes. I was reading the comments to the post Corey wrote letting us know of Ryan's illness when I read the hateful comment left buy some hater. I really can't believe how virulent some of these fundie haters can be in situations that call for compassion and sympathy not hatred and bile. The hater left a comment saying " Poor fag boy is sick all we can hope for is you don't make it. That will be one more fag burning in hell. Least you will be down there with your kind." How can someone be that insensitive? I left a comment saying I would love to be there when Saint Peter welcomes Ryan into heaven and casts the hater into hell with the rest of his kind, just to see the look on his face when it happened. I could not help but get catty with the guy as it angered me to have someone spewing hate in a comment like his on a post about a sweet guy like Ryan being sick. I guess it takes all kinds to make up this world, but this guy obviously does not know the same God I grew up with and continue to have faith in that one day we will all be accepting of one another no matter the differences in culture, religion, orientation, or any other label that is currently in vogue to dehumanize and classify humankind. While we as GLBT people are making progress at being accepted by society as a whole, it is incidents like this that remind us of the work that is still left to do to "Turn The Hate Around".
I have some excellent photos for tonight's eye candy section so I will leave you with them. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
