I am so sorry for not posting the last two days, I have been extremely busy with the moving company. I have to wear a lot of hats and train the people as we go, so sometimes I run out of day before I run out of work. I have been trying to keep up with the news and my favorite blogs, but it has been hard to do. In the news recently has been Emperor George's trip to Iraq. O f course he is spinning his side of the story to try and show "progress" in Iraq. Unfortunately for him, there are a few too many fact finders coming out with the real story and making his lies seem all the more bald faced than if he would have just told the truth. I don't think he is acquainted with Truth, Justice or the American way, much less reality. I did notice that he went to Anbar where the Iraqis through there own efforts have made some progress because the majority Sunni's in that area got PO'd at the "Al Queada" and started killing Iraqis instead of Americans. George's boys of course welcomed the former enemies with open arms as they were killing someone besides their guys so it was all right (tell that to the 4000 dead soldiers). The Emperor's trip was a surprise secret visit to shore up morale. It was a surprise because no one expected him to show up in a war zone and a secret because he did not want an IED welcoming party on arrival. I noticed also that he did not come anywhere near Baghdad. Seems the progress there is not what it should be and even the "safe" green zone is not really safe. He would not want some displaced Iraqi to take a pot shot at him or travel with protective gear and half the army so he could walk down the block in "safety". How he can stand at a podium and say some of the s* he does and sleep at night is beyond my comprehension as a reasonably mature adult. O f course who is to say he is reasonable, mature or even an adult? Certainly no one among my friends and associates. Enough ranting though as this was just to preface the real reason for my writing tonight.
This Sunday night at 10:30 Eastern time, HBO is presenting a special on the real faces of this tragedy we call a war. "Alive Day Memories: Home From Iraq" is a documentary featuring personal interviews with 10 of the thousands of survivors horribly injured upon the alter of Emperor George's ego. James Gondalfini (Soprano's) conducted the interviews on an off Broadway stage during the final wrap of the last season of the Soprano's and he is the Executive Producer of the documentary. The film shows a stark and intimate look at the physical and emotional toll this war has taken on those who must participate. It is followed at 1130 by an expanded "Alive Day Memories" special. Gandolfini brings out the best in those being interviewed and he says he was moved to tears at the emotional toll the war took rather than the horrific injuries these soldiers and Marines suffered. Like the high school gymnast who lost bot legs and a hand to an IED who is now grateful he can hold a fork or the former Army Captain who wonders if she will be able to pick up her child because she lost an arm and a shoulder.
Filmed by co-directors Jon Alpert and Matthew O'Neil, who brought us Baghdad ER, the film contains footage from home videos, pre-injury recordings from Iraq and insurgent recordings of IED bombings. "All of them get to you in their own way" says Gandolfini "But I was proud at how dignified, strong and smart they came across." He also said he did not want this film to be political or about him, but about the needs of these soldiers and what they are going through at the hands of our "support the troops" non-leaders and sycophants in the "Royal" court of the Emperor. Documentary Chief at HBO, Sheila Nevins said " more of these severely wounded are coming home. It's sort of a sad sweetness. They survive. But what kind of future do you have at 21when your legs have been blown off and your dreams are deflated?" Would that George had a truthful answer to that question. I will be watching on Sunday night, how about you?
Because I have not posted in about 3 days I will leave you with a little extra candy to feed your cravings for beauty. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
