On Friday I told you about the coming HomoRevolution Tour coming to The Brick in Dallas on April 8th. I received an email from dtlajaime giving me the link to Reclaiming hip-hop for the GLBT community in the San Diego Gay & Lesbian Times announcing the start of the tour on March 29th. It is an excellent article on the reasons for the tour as well as lots of background information on the tour and the artists, a coming out statement if you will. If you are in one of the cities on the tour you should make every effort to come out and support these artists as they make themselves visible to our community and the music industry. They are showing by their actions our diversity and our unwillingness to go quietly into that good night. For all tour dates and locations see the official HomoRevolution website.
Speaking of not going quietly into that good night, Eric Alva was on Paula Zahn the other night in response to General Peter Pace's statements to the Chicago Tribune about homosexuality being immoral. I have included the video below which I discovered first at Bloggernista along with a couple of good posts on the subject here and here. There has also been excellent coverage in the New York Times here and here as well as The Washington Post here.
As a Gay veteran separated in the "good old days" of the witch hunt during the Viet Nam war, I cannot stress strongly enough my outrage at the remarks of General Pace in the face of the hypocrisy of the military's actions or the ridiculousness of the Don't Ask / Don't Tell law. The number of GLBT person's discharged last year under this law was half of the number it was in 2001. Are we good enough to die in a misdirected war but not good enough to serve in peacetime? Or should we all make porno and kiss up to Ann Coulter like Matt Sanchez so we can stay in? There have always been Gays in the military from Alexander the Great to the present day. Is it not time to finally quash the belief that we cannot serve honorably and with distinction? Our blood being shed is just as red as anyone else's and our skills are not diminished just because we are homosexuals. Even the straight soldiers coming back from the current misguided wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are overwhelmingly (75% according to Zogby) unafraid of Gay people in the ranks. Stop the hypocrisy now, write your Senator and Congressional Representatives urging them to repeal this stupid law so our brothers and sisters in arms can get on with their lives and service to our country without fear of persecution for who they love.
That is all for now so I will close with the traditional eye candy for your viewing pleasure. I went through some of the older archives to find some photos that I have that you may not have seen and am sure you will like. So until next time as always, Enjoy!
