I was moved and surprised by the main stream sports media this week when I read an article on ESPN on the death of out athlete Anthony Castro of Banning, California who was killed in a car accident on Jan 21 whose funeral was on Tuesday. Outsports editor Jim Buzinski, a persona friend of Anthony's wrote an article also but L Z Granderson of ESPN the Magazine and ESPN360 wrote a moving piece "The Brilliant Life of Anthony Castro" which highlighted the many ways Anthony stood out from the crowd but did not hog the spotlight. Mr Gunderson was so inspired by the life of this 19 year old athlete who came out in high school at the age of 16 that he has decided to rename his weekly column in tribute to Anthony. It is a remarkable thing for a straight sports reporter on the major sports network in America to honor a Gay athlete in such a way. If I had to chose an athlete to honor, Anthony would be deserving but would shy from the spotlight of that honor. That is one of the things that made his life special. Read the stories, see how his life made all of ours better, just by being himself. His photo is just below, may he rest in peace, and may we remember his life for what he did for all of us without even knowing who we were.

Steve Ralls wrote a commentary in The Advocate on the changing attitudes of the military brass on the DA/DT policy "The Pentagon Sings A Different Tune". He points out that Congress made the law, Congress can change the law, and the military brass are coming around to the opinion that it should be changed. It is about 30 years too late for me, but all those serving in fear now, and those of us who want to serve in the future should have the opportunity to do so with out having to manipulate the truth of who we are just to serve our country in the way we want. Maybe we should start another letter writing campaign to our Congresspersons and Senators stating that as well as our opposition to George's war and Dick's money grubbing and prevaricating. Meanwhile we could always have a marine for desert like the one just below this paragraph!
I finally got a chance to catch up somewhat with Ryan, who as we all know has been sicker than the proverbial dog, who is now home from the hospital and comfortably ensconced at Tara with Mike where he belongs. Ryan chimed in on my messenger while Mike was in the shower, so we had a few minutes to chat. It was great to talk with him again as we have not had the opportunity while he has been sick. While I was looking for my present job we chatted almost daily and we both have come to enjoy our chats and have suffered withdrawal pains from them. Mike climbed out of the shower and Ryan had better things to do for tonight but we promised to spend some time talking this weekend while Mike is out playing with Bubba on the ATV's. Ryan and Mike will be headed to Daytona for the 500 in a couple of weeks and he has asked me to ghost write on Boys Are Ugly But So Cute while they are enjoying their pit passes, I don't know all the details yet. There will probably be more than one ghost writer involved for the week they are gone, but I told him I would be honored to do so. So this should prove interesting to say the least. I will link to BAUBSC and from there to here so you can catch it from either end.
My friend Kendall over at The Way I See It wrote an amazing post "The Darkest Night" where he reveals a secret that he has held for too many years. It is touching and brave of him to do so. I commend him for his bravery and forthrightness as well as hoping that this helps his healing process. Give it a read and post your support in his comment section. I love you Kendall, I hope the best for you, you are an inspiration to us all.
I have some interesting interviews coming up and some music to introduce to you in the coming weeks. My friend Ted Trent of Out of the Closet TV has asked me if I would like to interview his friends Jason and De Marco and Mamma, so I am in the process of contacting them and setting that up, and as I mentioned earlier this week Enzo Vacano will be updating us on his activities in the fashion world. My mystery guest this month is a musician that I met on my My Space from Germany and his site is almost ready so that will be coming up later in the month.
So the River of Life keeps flowing, taking us past endings and beginnings, joys and sorrows, but always flowing. As we sail on down this river, let us not forget how we got here or the people that made getting here possible. Remember too that you never know how many lives you touch just by being you. Reach out an touch someone today, spread the love, and come back here again to share the voyage that is Nichevo. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
