Insight &The World View

What do you see when you look at the world? Do you see ever increasing acceptance or do you see ever increasing persecution? There is plenty of both out there. In the current issue of the New York Times magazine, there is an article entitled "Prisoners of Sex" that renders a somewhat bleak appraisal of the state of human rights in Egypt, the most populous Islamic nation, over the past few years. The story includes torture and abuse as well as some avenues of hope for the LGBT people of the Arab world. It points out the prevailing thought most Muslims hold of homosexuality being a Western decadance or a holdover of colonial imperialism. A quite interesting read worthy of your time.

Meanwhile on the west coast, in a LA Times article "Global warming to gay rights" the progress towards acceptance of gay marriage and the validity of our relationships is highlighted. The article makes a very valid point when it states "The trend toward recognizing the dignity and love of two people of the same sex will not disappear. As barriers to same-sex couples fall, courts, legislatures, religious denominations and businesses everywhere will need to respond." I could not agree more.

In the current issue of Vanity Fair (the one with Brad Pitt on the cover) has a lengthy article detailing the life, times, rise and fall of Mark Foley and the "ambition, delusion and hypocrisy that corroded both the politician and his party". Don't ask ... Don't E-mail is indeed a tale worth the reading. It points out the conspiracy of everyone involved to keep Foley's closet half closed, by public denial and private acceptance of his homosexuality. The article delineates how both he and the republican party succumbed to the seduction of political power and their perverse and pervasive stop at nothing attitude to retain that power once gained. It makes me glad I (along with most of you) voted the bastards out of office. I just hope the democrats we elected do not fall prey to the same seduction.

As my faithful readers know, I receive a lot of encouraging emails and comments that do so much to keep me going in the midst of the rocky shoals of life. Please keep them coming as they really do play a big part of inspiring me to continue to provide you with the content you find here at Nichevo. My ship may stagger at times but you, my dear readers are always there to extend the lifeline and reel me in when I am about to jump off the deep end. The following picture is a tip of the hat to one of the more prolific and prosaic of my fans who shall remain nameless, but you know who you are and what this picture represents. My heartfelt appreciation to you for your kindness and support.

I also noticed an article on Planet Out today about the Three Affiliated Tribes of North Dakota and their passage of a resolution Friday barring Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church from demonstrating at the funeral of National Guard Cpl Nathan Goodiron on Saturday. The tribes chairman stated "We will not tolerate any harassment that is intended to provoke ill feelings and violence." I congratulate the Three Affiliated Tribes of North Dakota for taking a stand against hatred and bigotry. Native Americans have had there share of hatred and bigotry aimed at them, I am glad to see despite that fact, they espouse tolerance and inclusion. Seems there could be a lesson to be learned here?! Read the whole article here.

My friend Mike at the local geek shop I go to for repairs, advice et cetera who is str8 as a board told me that he has trouble reading Nichevo at work and at home because of the excellent eye candy you guys so much, but he enjoys the articles, so he subscribes via the rss/atom feed found at the bottom of the page. I encourage you to do the same if you have no access to a private computer. It is great to know that my writing style and insight has a wider appeal than what I at first perceived it to be. Thank you, Mike, for your support and advice. You have made my computing experience so much better with your expertise.

Auntie!
Shame on you. Whatever makes you think that we enjoy All these Hot, Ripe, Tanned young men, with bulges and bends and curves that make us feel as if we've just completed the Tour de France in the blink of an eye?
Breathless!
Are you trying to kill us!???
But, I'm a coward, so I have about 950 deaths to go. Next.

P.S. Ryan is a piece of eye candy, himself, and as sweet as he is pretty. Just ask Mikey.

What is this mess about you "jumping off the deep end?"

Auntie... the only thing that can come of that is:
1. You emerge in wet drawers.
2. You sink or swim, and since the Navy selects only swimmers it won't do you any good to jump off the "deep end."

So, all it will accomplish is: You'll be in wet drawers. I shudder to think how often you've been in wet drawers. I shudder to think how often you've been in no drawers at all.

"Happy Birthday to you..."
