A Classic Case In Point

Before I get into the meat of todays topic I want to extend my condolences to Ryan and Mike and especially to Johannes Sfiligoi and family upon the death of Mister Hans Sfiligoi, the artist and blogger known as Castor who passed away on 11/28/2006 from lung cancer. He was a close friend to Ryan and Mike and to all who knew him. You can read Ryan's tribute here.

I cannot believe that the publishers of Time magazine could have published such a bigoted article under the guise of truthful reporting. This weeks issue features an article by that hypocrite and major wingnut Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family in which he mangle and twists the research of the reputable Carol Gilligan, PhD, a professor at New York University for the purpose of bashing Mary Cheney and homosexuals in general. She has sent him a cease and desist letter which I quote here:

I was mortified to learn that you had distorted my work this week in a guest column you wrote in Time Magazine. Not only did you take my research out of context, you did so without my knowledge to support discriminatory goals that I do not agree with. What you wrote was not truthful and I ask that you refrain from ever quoting me again and that you apologize for twisting my work.

This is not the first nor I fear the last time that Dr Dobson in his delusion that he preaches God's love has spewed hate, bigotry and lies with the purpose of persecuting the LGBT people in the world. He being the one that said he could not spare the time to "fix" Pastor Haggard because it is going to take 5 years to reclaim his soul. I would really like to be at the Pearly Gate when St. Peter throws him down to hell just so I could laugh in his face. That is probably un-Christian of me, but he certainly does not know the same Christ I do, so I have no regrets about the way I feel. You can read the whole story over at Americablog..

Not only did Dr Dobson mangle and twist the truth, he also plagiarized part of the article stating as his own writing the research of Dr. Kyle Pruett of the Yale School of Medicine as quoted here:
The unique value of fathers has been explained by Dr. Kyle Pruett of Yale Medical School in his book Fatherneed: Why Father Care Is as Essential as Mother Care for Your Child. Pruett says dads are critically important simply because "fathers do not mother." Psychology Today explained in 1996 that "fatherhood turns out to be a complex and unique phenomenon with huge consequences for the emotional and intellectual growth of children." A father, as a male parent, makes unique contributions to the task of parenting that a mother cannot emulate, and vice versa. Two Mommies Is One Too Many

In the same issue of Time writer Glenn T. Stanton rebuts with the facts as stated below:
The fathering difference is explained by fathering scholar Dr. Kyle Pruett of Yale Medical School in his book Fatherneed: Why Father Care is as Essential as Mother Care for Your Child. Pruett says dads matter simply because “fathers do not mother." Psychology Today explains, “Fatherhood turns out to be a complex and unique phenomenon with huge consequences for the emotional and intellectual growth of children.” A father, as a male parent, brings unique contributions to the job of parenting that a mother cannot.

Dr. Pruett also wrote to Dr Dobson as follows:

I was startled and disappointed to see my work referenced in the current Time Magazine piece in which you opined that social science, such as mine, supports your convictions opposing lesbian and gay parenthood. I write now to insist that you not quote from my research in your media campaigns, personal or corporate, without previously securing my permission. You cherry-picked a phrase to shore up highly (in my view) discriminatory purposes. This practice is condemned in real science, common though it may be in pseudo-science circles. There is nothing in my longitudinal research or any of my writings to support such conclusions. On page 134 of the book you cite in your piece, I wrote, “What we do know is that there is no reason for concern about the development or psychological competence of children living with gay fathers. It is love that binds relationships, not sex.”

Time has realized that this is a major screw up on their part and as part of the rebuttal Jennifer Chrisler of the Family Pride Coalition states :

... To say that Dobson is misinformed here would be inaccurate. He is simply lying. The people who are misinformed by these untruths are the readers of his material and those who publish his work without appropriately verifying his assertions....

At the least, we have to recognize that Time realizes their mistake in allowing this kind of bigotry to be printed under their mast head. However, that does not provide an excuse for Dr. Dobson and those like him for seeking outlets to denigrate persons that he obviously knows nothing about or research being quoted incorrectly to verify lies he purports to be the truth. Is it any wonder that we as gay people have trouble reconciling our spiritual beliefs with what is projected by the religious community, all in the guise of protecting the families of America. I firmly believe if the family you are born with refuses to be your family, you can create your own family with a individual(s) of your choosing binding together in love and respect. I believe that the God I know blesses these families just like traditional families, and God, whoever you perceive that to be does not project hatred and bigotry but love and inclusion of all peoples.

As long as we are ranting in the religious realm tonight, religious right wingnut politician Roy Moore had this to say about newly elected Representative Keith Ellison:

Enough evidence exists for Congress to question Ellison's qualifications to be a member of Congress as well as his commitment to the Constitution in view of his apparent determination to embrace the Quran and an Islamic philosophy directly contrary to the principles of the Constitution. But common sense alone dictates that in the midst of a war with Islamic terrorists we should not place someone in a position of great power who shares their doctrine. In 1943, we would never have allowed a member of Congress to take their oath on "Mein Kampf," or someone in the 1950s to swear allegiance to the "Communist Manifesto." Congress has the authority and should act to prohibit Ellison from taking the congressional oath today!

Last I heard, this was still America albeit with an idiot for President and not Nazi Germany or Stalinist USSR. Never in all my research into the great religions of the world have I ever had any thought of comparing the Quran to either Mein Kampf or the Communist Manifesto both of which I have read. There is nothing there to compare. As far as the principles of the Constitution which Mr Moore obviously has not read, were based on the separation of church and state along with no infringement on any persons choice of faith in which to believe. Maybe he should read the Constitution before he opens his mouth the next time.

I will sure be glad when we finally run all the theocrats out of office and reduce the influence of religious conservatives on the secular government of these United States. We need to get back to the basic principles that this country was founded upon and live up to the ideas of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution not just give it lip service and then do as we please to anyone who does not happen to be just like us. If that is too much for the Republicans and theocrats to stomach, I suggest they read the aforementioned documents and pray to whichever deity they believe in for the moment for forgiveness of the sins of hatred and bigotry.

Now just a couple of housekeeping items before I close with the traditional eye candy for you guys. You Tube has disabled my account as someone who was certainly not gay disliked the content of my videos, yet I saw a woman raise her skirt showing a purple strap on fucking a guy in the ass in someone else's video. Go figure. Anyway, all future videos will be uploaded to Pando and posted at the bottom of the page with the others for your downloading and viewing pleasure.
