Record Setting Day in Dallas & Denver

The thousands of fans gathered at NFL Stadiums in both Dallas and Denver definitely got their money's worth yesterday as DeMarco Murray and Peyton Manning raised the performance bar at their respective positions.  Murray's 28 carries for 128 yards gave the Cowboys running back his 7th straight 100 yard game to open the season, something no other NFL RB has ever done.  Murray's efforts pushed him past the immortal Jim Brown into the top spot among the elite of the NFL.  Brown's record had stood for 56 years before falling to Murray whose 4th quarter TD after setting the record helped to seal the win over the Giants 31-21.  His performance along with Tony Romo's 17 of 23 for 279 yards left the Dallas Cowboys in a place to which they have been unaccustomed in recent seasons.  Alone atop the Standings in the NFC East at 6-1 which happens to be the best record in football at the moment.  The Cowboys have that club all to themselves for this week anyway.  Next up for them is the first of two annual grudge matches with traditional division rival Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football.

After taking in Murray, Romo and the Boys, the Sunday Night Game was very much to my liking also.  The SF49ers were in Denver to play  Peyton Manning and the Broncos.  When I tuned in after I got home from work, Denver was already up 14 - 0.  It only went further down hill from there for the boys from the bay as Manning shredded them with 3 TDs in the first half to surpass Brett Favre's 508 NFL record.  He added another nifty 40 yard TD in the second half to set the record (for now) at 510 as the Broncos dismantled the 49ers 42-17 before a national TV audience.  I admire Manning as a football player and a human being, all these accolades could not go to a nicer guy or better example of a sports role model.  Who knows how high the bar will be when Peyton finally decides to hang up his guns and retire.  I just hope it is not too soon, he is a lot a fun to watch on any afternoon or evening as the case may be.  I would only root against him if the Broncos were playing the Cowboys, but that is not yet on this seasons schedule.  The only way the Boys and the Broncs would play this year is if they met in the Super Bowl.  While I AM NOT calling the Cowboys a contender for the title as yet, I am hard pressed to find a better team in the NFC at the moment, and we all know Denver is a legitimate SB caliber team.  This season just gets more interesting week by week.  I am looking forward to each weeks games a lot more this year and it is definitely good to hear the Cowboys being talked about as among the best teams in football again.
