With the weather being as cold and messy as it has been the last couple of days, I have been staying pretty much indoors. To occupy my time I have been spending a lot of time playing with my new computer and surfing the Internet. I have found Windows 7 really easy to work with and it has some really cool and amazing features. Two of the best are the Task Bar and the Libraries feature. The Task Bar is opaque and can sit on the bottom, top or either side of your desk top. You can also drag and drop the program and folder icons to where you want them and a mouse over brings up a preview pane in which you can see what is currently running in the program or showing in the folder. In XP I had to have a program called Task Bar Shuffle to do this, I like that it has been incorporated into the OS. I have my mouse set for one click to open so with one click I can open anything on the Task Bar. You can also right click on any icon, choose pin to Task Bar and it will remain there. The System Tray sits at the right side of the Task Bar for easy access to the processes running on your computer and at the right end of the Task Bar is a rectangle that on mouse over temporarily shows the Desktop plus one click will minimize all windows you have open. If you have several windows open, you can right click the task bar, choose show windows side by side and all windows open will be displayed in a grid. This is pretty handy if you are working on multiple projects or messaging or Skyping while you are doing something else.
The Libraries feature is also an amazing tool which is easily utilized. Clicking on the Libraries icon on the Task Bar opens a window which displays icons for your current Libraries. The standard configuration has four Libraries already established; Documents, Photos, Music, and Videos. You can also create your own Library by clicking the New Library button at the top of the window. You can also navigate to other areas of your computer by clicking one of the smaller icons located on the left side of the window. This makes organizing your files, folders amazingly simple and readily accessible. In each Library you can have any thing you want either listed or in folders which I find to be excellent for organization of the data or images contained within. For an obsessive/compulsive like me with a penchant for a place for everything and everything in its place, this feature is pure heaven.
Another amazing little tool is the Sound Mixer located in the System Tray on the Task Bar. By clicking on the volume icon the Sound Mixer opens and allows you to regulate the volume of anything that makes a sound on your computer. As all sort of things make sounds at various levels, the Sound Mixer acts like an equalizer allowing you to balance everything at a comfortable level for you and your roommates or family that can hear what is going on your computer. If your roommate has super hearing like Will who can hear a mouse fart two counties away, this comes in handy so as not to disturb or irritate them.
To say I am impressed with Windows 7 is an understatement. I never thought Darth Gates and the Evil Empire could do something this amazingly well. The purchase of my new computer is the best thing I have done for myself in ages. I wish everything I do would turn out as this has.
While reading my feeds yesterday. Outsports posted a link to a new blog by another high school athlete who is openly Gay and writing about his experiences. It is well written as the author is both intelligent, articulate and he expresses himself effectively in his posts. Take a minute to check out Craig's Gay Word and see for yourself how together he is. It is guys like Craig and Brad, Robert and Ben who I have posted about earlier that gives me great hope for the next generation of not only Gay people but society in general. As Craig says, life just "doesn't get better...it gets Great!"
While we are on the topic of Amazing Things, I have found four videos, again featuring the Cello, which I have found to be pretty amazing. Three of the videos featuring the same musician playing multiple parts while the fourth features four musicians playing one cello. I think you will also be amazed at the skill and musicianship displayed in the videos. I also think you will like the amazing guys I have posted after the videos. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
