We have good news, bad news, a cool video shot in the Alps, quite a few things in the Best of Web This week as well as some Beethoven to soothe the savage beast in us all. I guess I will start with this cool video shot by Fashion photographer and filmmaker Jacob Sutton who swaps the studio for the slopes of Tignes in the Rhône-Alpes region of south-eastern France, with a luminous after hours short starring Artec pro snowboarder William Hughes. h/t Towleroad.com.

As most of you in range of a television or radio this week know, Whitney Houston died last Saturday. The Internet has been alive with tributes and commentary both good and bad. However, the award for the best tribute I have seen came on the Valentine's Day episode of Glee when Mercedes nailed 'I Will Always Love You'. This has been one of my favorite love songs since the first time I heard Dolly Parton sing it coming down the stairs in 'The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas' lo those many years ago.

In the Good News/Bad News department, first up is Maryland whose legislature passed the Marriage Equality Bill which now goes to the Senate where it is expected to pass. Governor O'Malley has promised to sign the bill when it gets to his desk making Maryland state number 8 with Marriage Equality. Both houses of the New Jersey legislature also passed a Marriage Equality bill and sent it to Governor Christie who immediately vetoed the bill. The good news here is the legislature can vote to override the veto as many times as it takes until the end of this session in January of 2014. 12 more votes are needed in the House and 3 more in the Senate and there will be enough to tell Governor Christie to shove it and we will then have 9 states with Marriage Equality.

Now that I have had a few moments to catch my breath after a rather harrowing night at work complete with semi-delusional drunks and a car jacking in the parking lot, I am ready to relax a bit. What better way to relax than to listen to a little Beethoven. Today's musical interlude includes Piano Sonatas 2, 14, 31 and 32 performed by Friedrich Gulda, recorded live at his concert in Salzburg in July of 1964. A Little Rant

I have got to go to the clinic this morning to get the blood work done for my doctor's appointment next Friday. If I go when it opens at 7:45 it takes me less time to get it done than going later in the day so I usually get out there right as they open. The only 'problem' with getting the blood work done is I have to fast completely for 8 hours before going. No food, no soda, no tea, all I am allowed is water during that 8 hour period. I know it does not sound like such a big deal, but I find water boring to drink and I usually do not go 8 hours while awake without eating some little something or another. Sometimes I find all this health care stuff to be a little annoying. Up until I had my stroke a couple of years ago, I did not regularly go to the doctor, in fact I had not been in several years at the time. In the last two years I have spent more on health care than in the previous 20. I have heretofore always felt myself to be healthy as a horse and truth be told, I still feel pretty much the same way. However it cost me more money now to maintain that somewhat illusory feeling. I don't know why we can't have a more economical health care system in this country. It is true that I participate in the public health system, otherwise I would not be able to afford what health care I do get. If not for that, I would not be going to the doctor at all. What I really wonder is if I did not participate as I do, would it really make a difference in the way I feel? Sometimes I think it does not really make a difference in my physical well being but just puts a dent in my wallet. I don't suppose I would really know unless I stopped going to the doctor. For now I will continue as I really do not want to take a chance on not enjoying what quality of life that I now have. So I guess it is spend the money and take my medicines as I should according to the doctors. I wish I could just fucking live and the doctors be damned.

Technical Difficulties

The UPS man gave me a reprieve from Will's antsiness by arriving at 2:45 instead of after 4 with three big boxes containing the case, the parts and the 23" widescreen monitor. Construction however, is not proceeding as planned. The power supply, the motherboard and processor went in without a problem but the standard heat sink that is supplied with the processor does not adapt to the motherboard he purchased, thus rendering it a useless hunk of metal and tubing. Lord knows he tried every way imaginable to get it to fit from the sound of the curses emanating from his room, none of them seemed to work. Therefore Will has opted to order a water cooling system to stand in it stead, thus halting construction of the super computer until it arrives. Proceeding further with the construction would block access to the processor with cabling, so it really makes no sense to proceed before the cooling system is installed. I will keep you apprised of further progress in the super computer DIY process.

I found some interesting music in my subscription inbox for today's play list from a French Baroque composer who was the first to bring Arcangelo Correlli's trio sonata music form to France. The play list includes Apothéose de Lulli (1725), Le Parnasse ou l'Apothéose de Corelli (1724), and Dixième concert in Les goûts réunis (1724) by Francois Couperin performed by the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Louis Auriacombe in a 1963 French recording. The three pieces are excellent examples of the French Baroque style of chamber music with the Les gout reunis a combination of the Italian and French styles. I think you will find them pleasurably listenable.

The DIY Project

Will is all aglow with anticipation for the impending arrival today of the parts he ordered on Monday from NewEgg.com for his new gaming super computer. This is his dream machine with each part researched and carefully selected to maximize his gaming environment. For you geeks out there, you can read up on all the components that will comprise his rig here. Of course, once it arrives this afternoon, he must assemble all the parts and install the OS before it becomes a real computer. I may kill him before the delivery man arrives if he gets much more antsy. He is already looking out the front window for the UPS truck although we both know it will not get here until around 4 PM. Maybe I should drug him and put him to sleep? I really am happy for him, he and Rachal have been saving and planning for this event for months as the total package comes to just over $1100. I will be appropriately jealous as he expects me to be. Once he has it up and running, it will probably be nigh on impossible to extricate him from his room for any reason except probably his need to eat something. Will spends most of his time on the Internet or one of his game consoles. A lot of the time he is on both the computer and a console ( he has an XBox360, a PS3 and a Wii). I am sure he will derive many hours of pleasure from the completed project. Heretofore he has been using a laptop, this is his first desktop (also the first time he has built one) which I am sure will provide many new experiences with its inherent differences from the laptop environment. I shall have fun watching him put all the myriad pieces together and I will hopefully be able to keep him from fucking up the process too much (if indeed he will listen to my kibitzing!). So today should prove to be an interesting exercise in patience for both of us. I will let you know how it goes.

Most of you probably already know the Grammy's were on Sunday night and Adele swept up 6 Grammy's, winning all the categories she was nominated in. During one of the commercial breaks in the broadcast, Adele came on stage and sang a reworked version of her hit song "Someone Like You" transforming it into a political statement ragging Newt Gingrich unmercifully and beautifully. The Video showed up on line yesterday and I have posted it just above the play list for today. The play list for today is a beautifully played, although lengthy, performance running just over 2 hours comprised of The Well Tempered Clavier by Johann Sebastian Bach, BWV846 to BWV869 performed by Valery Afanassiev recorded in 1995. They played a portion of it on Venice Classic Radio as I was listening yesterday afternoon, however I liked the whole thing so much I thought I would post it in its entirety to provide you with a delightful bit of background music for whatever you happen to be doing. This is the day when many in the world celebrate romantic love in reverence of the martyred Saint Valentine (of which there are at least 14). Many of the current legends that characterise Saint Valentine were invented in the fourteenth century in England, notably by Geoffrey Chaucer and his circle, when the feast day of February 14 first became associated with romantic love. Being the hopeless romantic that I am, I am still holding out for that one true love. However, many of you, together with your sweethearts, can celebrate the spirit of the day in any number of ways as each of us have our own idea of what constitutes romance. I hope you and your sweetheart have the most romantic of times and then fuck like bunnies as part of your celebration. In the mean time, those of us not romantically involved at the moment may choose to lust after any one of the 30 Sultry Sweethearts posted below today's video. Speaking of which, I did not have time in my busy day yesterday to preview anything in particular for a musical interelude for today. I did find the video in my subscription inbox at You Tube and it is two and a half hours of Classical music, Chamber music and Symphonies, a vast repertoire of classical music broadcast live streaming, brought to you from the fine folks at Bluelight Gallery. I Am Out Of Pocket Today

I am writing this on Sunday for publication on Monday as I will be tied up attending a boring ass one hour dissertation on food handling safety that I have to sit through to renew my food handlers card. This is the same class I have had to sit through since I was 16 when I got my first food handlers card. I could teach the damn course if I did not put myself to sleep before getting through it. Sheesh, but I gotta do it for the job, so I guess I will go waste an hour or two. Just exactly what I want to be doing on a frosty Monday Morning. Then I have to take Will to the bank to deposit the money for his new computer. Then I finally will get to relax. So while I am away boring myself to tears in the company of 39 other bored as hell folks, you guys can listen to the play list and lust after the munchable men on display. The play list this morning is the first two movements from Odysseus' Journey, Opus 6, Number 2, a Symphonic Tone Poem by Ernst Boehe performed by the the Staatsphil Rheinland-Pfalz conducted by Werner Andreas Albert. "Ernst Boehe was a personal friend of Richard Strauss and his music is lushly tuneful, densely orchestrated (he always seemed to write for large orchestral forces) and harmonically 'safe' considering the Second Viennese School was exactly contemporaneous and very active. Strauss was producing Salome at the time Boehe was writing his tone poem Odysseus." Then after the play list are the aforementioned munchable men in their Monday's Undies to leer at and lust after. Best of the Web This Week

This has been pretty much a wasted weekend as far as me getting anything done because I did not get my paycheck until after 3 PM yesterday, well past my bedtime. So rather than delay meaningful sleep any longer, I chose this morning for all the weekly shopping. So here in a bit I am heading out to Wally World as I want to get the shopping done before they get the Saturday crowds in. I am having to do the grocery shopping at Wally World because they have closed the Kroger in my neighborhood as unprofitable. So now I have to travel out of the neighborhood to get my groceries and Wally World is the next closest place with reasonable prices. I am also going early so I can figure out where everything is. At Kroger, I was so familiar with the store, I could make a long list and still be out in half an hour after getting everything on the list. Now I have to get familiar with a whole new layout plus travel farther each time I want to go shopping. Oh well, there is not much I can do about it, so I might as well get used to it.

Somehow I did not end up collecting as many photographs this week as I have been so there are fewer photograph in this week's review although they are just as hot as they usually are so you should not be disappointed in my selections. For background music for your lingering leers at all the lusty lads in this weeks collection, I have a Symphony in the style of Beethoven, who methodology was extensively analyzed by today's featured composer. The Symphony in D Minor by Ruperto Chapí, a Spanish composer, is performed by the Orquestra de l'Academia del Gran Teatre del Liceu conducted by Guerassim Voronkov. Another Step (or Two) Forward

Marriage equality remained in the news as Washington State's Legislature approved their version of the Washington Senate bill to legalize same sex marriage yesterday, which Governor Christine Gregoire is expected to sign into law. The Illinois State Legislature also introduced a marriage equality bill in its session yesterday along with bills progressing in the New Jersey and Maryland Legislatures. We could have 10 states with marriage equality by this time next year. One step at a time, we are drawing closer to full equality. Let's keep up the good work and press on to victory. Of course NOM, the AFA and the Republicans are having hissy fits, but let them hiss all they want, they are on the losing end of this battle. They know it and they know we know it, so they are howling like a stuck pig. I myself kinda like hearing them squeal as they go down for the count.

Meanwhile, here at the house, I am off for the next couple of days with a full list of chores and errands to accomplish. Some of them are in a holding pattern as my paycheck has yet to arrive for some reason. I hate when that happens, but there is little I can do about it for the moment. So I think I will surf the Internet for a while then take a nap. Sounds good to me! Before I go, I guess I should tell you about today's featured composer who is Hungarian and is widely regarded as one of the most significant violinists of the 19th century. Joseph Joachim was a collaborator with Johannes Brahms and a protege of Felix Mendelssohn. Equality Moves Forward

LGBT Equality took a giant leap forward with yesterday's ruling from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upholding Judge Walker's original ruling that Proposition 8 in California was indeed unconstitutional. The Court also ruled that there was no just cause for Judge Walker to have recused himself from the case simply because he was Gay and in a LTR with another man. You should read the excellent analysis of the ruling by Ari Ezra Waldman over at Towleroad.com for a more in depth understanding of the intricacies of the case and its ruling. The three leading candidates for the Republican nomination were quick to condemn the ruling and spew their hateful bile while most everyone else was joyous and full of praise for the ruling. Whether the defendants choose to appeal to the Ninth Circuit en banc (for all 11 of the judges to rule instead of the 3 that did) or take their appeal to the US Supreme Court remains to be seen as well as the lifting of the stay of execution of Judge Walkers original ruling. This is one giant step forward in our march toward total equality under the law and a moment to be cherished as truly historical.

Stravinsky Suites and Sexy Studs

I had a wonderfully pleasant experience this morning after a mellow night at work, I actually got off on time. In fact I punched out one minute before the end of the shift when my replacement (the new girl, Estella) showed up 5 minutes early for her shift. I did not know quite what to do, so I just shot on home and kicked back for a bit. I could get used to this, but I am not holding my breath as Estella only works the morning shift on one of my regular days, darn it. Anyway, as it is my day off, I will probably just veg around the house because I have no major tasks or errands to get done. Maybe I should go shopping, I still have undesignated money left in the bank. Nah, something will come up, so I better just hang on to it. I don't have anything that is tripping my trigger to talk about so I will just move on to the play list. I was listening to Venice Classic Radio yesterday when they played the first piece in today's list. However the version they broadcast was the one transcribed for violin and piano. I found I liked the original version as it was written for the cello and piano much better, but then I am an unabashed cello fan. The piece in question is Suite Italienne by Igor Stravinsky today performed by two great Hungarian musicians: Laszlo Mezo at the cello and Lorant Scucz at the piano. Then I added Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring with Walt Disney's wonderful animation from his 1940 film Fantasia for the second half of the play list. Then I dug around in my archives for some totally scrumptious Sexy Studs in Swimwear to cavort about the page for your perusal. News, Views, Music and Men!

I took me a while to wind down from work this morning after a very stressful night at work. All the abominable creatures of the night were out in full force and just had to pay a visit to the corner of Crazy Ave and Stupid Street. On top of being busy with all manor of strange customers, Sean and I had some special projects to complete for the inspection that is coming up. We got it done, but both of us were frazzled by the time our shift was due to be over. Of course the girls ran on Female Standard Time as usual and I did not get off until nearly 7 o'clock. So I took a little bit of a breather, baked some banana nut muffins, and now I am ready to blog.

The weekend provided some good reading on the Internet of relevancy to us of the LGBT persuasion. We have lost yet another Gay teenager to suicide brought on by bullying. Rafael Morelos hanged himself on January 29 and over the weekend a vigil was held in his memory by friends and family. That brought January's total to four deaths by suicide among our precious young LGBT folks. Not all teenagers are taking bullying lying down, some are fighting back as illustrated by the story in Rolling Stone about the teens in the Anoka-Hennepin School District in Minnesota (Michelle Bachman country) and their fight against the religious hate mongers after a rash of suicides brought on by bullying. The story is both heart rending and heart warming to read.

Another good read comes to us by the way of the pages of LGBTQ Nation with a story from Desmond Rutherford and his Des Down Under blog with an article entitled Sex - Goodness or Madness?. Des takes on the subject of sex and those who seek to control other peoples sex lives as well as marriage equality in a way that is both direct and immensely humorous to read. I especially liked his "house of the religious money collectors" in reference to the sanctimonious institutions that purport to speak for the almighty while diddling everyone they can behind closed doors.

Last on the reading list but certainly not least is David Mixner's blog post about the LGBT opportunities for progress at the ballot box in this election season. I agree with his summation about the opportunities he listed as just the "tip of the iceberg of all the excitement at the ballot box for LGBT candidates and victories for marriage equality. This could be our moment in the sun. Please don't miss it." By all means, stay informed, stay active, and by all means vote for those who would best help us on our journey to equality.

Now that I have covered all of that, we come to the play list for today. Felix Mendelssohn wrote several suites during the course of his composing career under the general heading of Songs Without Words. Today we are going to hear three of those suites, his Opus 19, 30 and 38 suites all performed by Daniel Barenboim. Then of course I have this week's collection of hunky hotties more or less covered in their Monday's Undies. Between the mellow music and the marvelous men you should have a great start to your week. Best of the Web This Week

Welcome to the weekend and this week's review of the Best of the Web This Week. I hope you are having a fabulous weekend, I know I am as I have managed to catch up on my rest and put together some fantastic photographs for your review today. To accompany your tour of the photos, I have a monumental work by the Austrian composer, Carl Czerny. Czerny's music was profoundly influenced by his teachers, Muzio Clementi, Johann Nepomuk Hummel, Antonio Salieri and Ludwig van Beethoven who took him as a student when he was but 10 years old. The work I have for you today is his Symphony Number 2 in D Major, written in 1814 when he was 23, performed by the American Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Leon Botstein. The performance runs just over an hour so that should give you plenty of time to choose your favorites among the many marvelous men on display. Getting Back On Track

I finally managed to finish up all my chores and errands late yesterday afternoon. By the time I had wound down from all my frenetic activities it was nearly 5 pm and way past my bedtime. I plopped down on my bed and was immediately asleep, staying that way until Jennifer called around 10. She had gone to the doctor and had been given a whole gamut of tests and procedures. She had her original wrappings replace with removable lockout braces to support her injured legs. If all goes well with the Workman's Comp people, she will have surgery on Monday to repair her splintered left tibia. We talked a little more but she had taken some of her pain medication which made her a little foggy, so we hung up knowing we would talk again soon. I messed about the Internet a bit then lay back down for a nap. The last couple of days has really thrown my sleep schedule out of whack. I am going to try to get that back on track today and tomorrow so that I will not go into my work week too out of step with myself.

While I work on getting my sleep schedule back on track I will leave you guys with today's featured composer who is from Finland. Playing Catch Up

I must apologize for the lateness of this posting, however it has been a booger bear of a morning after working late last night. I also still have all my normal weekly chores and errands to do. So, yes, I am behind the curve but I hope to catch up sometime today. In the interest of getting this up and on to the rest of my duties for today I will be brief. A Little This, A Little That

I had a nice long visit with my Gal Pal Jennifer yesterday afternoon when I took her a bright bouquet of flowers. I found that she did not actually break here knees but the tibia, which is the larger of the two bones in the lower leg. The right tibia snapped in two in a clean break and is the lesser of her injuries. The left tibia however instead of snapping cleanly like the right one instead split lengthwise from the impact when she fell. This is the one that is going to require surgical repair. She goes back to the doctor on Thursday to find out more about how this is going to go and will keep me informed. Her daughter Jill has flown in from Denver to help her out for right now but will eventually have to return to her home in Colorado. I will do what I can to help out but the physical distance between us will probably hinder my efforts there. Hopefully she will recover quickly and be back on here feet before too long.

It is Super Bowl Week here in America, the build up to the largest one day sporting event in the world is going full throttle. While most locations provide live TV coverage of the event, there is an Internet alternative with live streaming of the event on NFL.com and NBCSports.com. PC World give you the lowdown on how to stream the broadcast on your PC, Smart Phone or tablet. If you are not a sports or American football fan, then you will probably want to ignore all the hype and do something else on Sunday.

If you are into experimenting with your computer or are just plain tired of dealing with Windows or other things Microsoft, then PC World has this excellent article on Linux: A Get Started Guide. GoldieG89 says this symphony "sounds like a lost Bruckner symphony" and it is indeed quite the enjoyable listening experience. I worked over and hour and a few minutes this morning again. However, I am off tonight, but I have a lot to accomplish today before I can relax. Will has a dental appointment at 10:30 in Hurst at the NE Clinic and I have no idea how long that will take. After I bring him home, then I am off to my old stomping grounds in Irving (where I lived before I moved to Arkansas) to visit my best Gal Pal, Jennifer. She called over the weekend to inform me she fell at work on Friday and broke both her knees. She is in much pain and not to mobile at the moment, so I want to go over to give her some TLC. I will stop on the way to get some flowers or a plant to help brighten her spirits a little. That should put me back home in late afternoon, way past my bedtime, before I can finally lay me down to rest. I am glad I am off or I would be one tired puppy if I had to turn around and work tonight on 3 or 4 hours of sleep. Oh well, such is the life of your Uncle Gerry when everyone needs a piece of his time. So I best get this posted before I have to get my act together and start running all over town. Today's featured composer is a Frenchman who studied under the German composer Cesar Franck at the Conservatoire in Paris. The play list includes String Quartets Numbers 1 in D Major, Opus 35 (1890) and 2 in E Major, Opus 45 (1897) by Vincent D'Indy performed by the Kodaly Quartet, a Hungarian Quartet, known originally as the Sebestyen Quartet. They changed the name in 1969 to honor their countryman, composer Zoltan Kodaly. Monday Meanderings

I had a long weekend at work as I worked 13 hours on Saturday then had to go in early last night and stay late this morning. Therefore I did not get much prep work done beforehand, so I am running a little behind this morning in getting this posted. However I still have some things that I think will interest you guys today. In my email, I get weekly suggestions from StumbleUpon and this week one of the recommendations was this tripy little flash game you can play online to occupy some time when there is not much going on. It is colorful and fun to bat the balls around to see what the little star trails do. Then in my Google Reader I subscribe to Bill Mullins' Tech Thoughts blog and one of the reviews he did this week was for the International Computer Science Institute's Netalyzer program that gives you a run down on your Internet connection and system performance. ICSI is associated with UC Berkeley and is one of the leading independent computer research institutes in the US. You can read all about Netalyzer and their home net profiler program here then decide for yourself if you would like to try the programs out.

Then to entertain you today, I have put together a play list containing Piano Quartets Numbers 1 in A Minor, Opus 43; 2 in E Major, Opus 44, and 3 in G Major, Opus 50 by Friedrich Kiel performed by Ulrike-Anima Mathe, Hariolf Schlichtig, Xenia Jankovic and Oliver Triendl.
